It sounds terrible. I'm sure the v12 exhaust growl would make up for it, but the interior sound from the video makes it sound like a normal tuned turbo car car - be it a supra, noble m12 or even an 80's escort. Im sure it would get really tiring after a while.

It also looks like it's being made to smile for the camera. Gritted teeth and curled lips.

Still, I'm sure it will grow on me but I haven't got the bouncing cheque book out just yet.
I never need much of an excuse to post this video of my test ride from last year. FWIW, the whooshing is less dominant when you're actually in the car, I guess it's something to do with the microphone/settings (IANASE). IMHO.

As I say in the description: The Zonda and Huayra are very different cars, and I know the Huayra isn't quite as wild to listen to but it's not trying to be a Zonda. Don't think of it as the Zonda replacement. The Huayra is James Bond to the Zonda's Bruce Lee - they both have their place.

Hate the nose, ruins the look of the car for me which is otherwise just knockout.

The turbo hiss and tssch would drive me absolutely insane. At least I think it would. Maybe I could, you know, test drive one for a bit to find out? A month or so should do it.

Cracking video, really enjoyed it.

Was it only me who mentally replaced the music with some of Donna Summer's finest at the bit where Chris was looking around the car? Give it a go, get to 3:27, pause and mute Harris, then hit play on the youtube clip below at the same time as starting the Harris vid again, much better biggrin

Yeah, this car needs some kind of Giorgio Moroder synth soundtrack. They should have got him to 'design' the engine noise. Instead of turbo hiss it could play the arpeggiated bassline from 'I Feel Love', every time you shift a gear up or down it changes key in either direction. Fabulous!

Thanks Chris, enjoyed the video.

Gone some way to endear me to the car which I was a little cold on before. Thank god that cars like this are still made that`s all I can say.

I wonder how many owners will also have a Zonda in their collection? A fairly high percentage I`d have thought.

Stunning piece of machinery. Not exactly beautiful, but just slightly out-of-this world, kind of like an F1 car, in a way that makes you just want to stand back and shake your head.

I doubt I'll ever get to drive one, but I'm looking forward to seeing one in action on a road that does it justice... and just how do you guys in the Pistonheads HQ decide who gets to go on jobs like this??

Another excellent video.

The car is objectively impressive. People who get a hard-on about the "quality" of an interior with slightly more expensive plastic and fillets of "premium" materials glued to it ought to take a hard look at the Huayra. Those details revealed in those close up shots of the interior and exterior are exquisite. Objectively exquisite and subjectively excessive. If this were Japanese, everyone would call it horribly fussy, inside and out - because it is from the aristocracy of Italian hypercar manufacturers, we defer to the maker's tastes. Equally subjectively, I don't much like the noise it makes, especially compared to the Zonda. Obviously that's in context, it doesn't sound dreadful but a car like that should give goosebumps.

I respect it, I don't think I covet it.

I'm hoping its machined out of inconel or something ridiculous to make up for its tackyness.

Brilliant video. Love the build up story, including the baggage reclaim, hire car stuff and especially the restaurant scene. Soooooo much better than any other video review.

Not so sure about the car itself though. Appreciate it for what it is, and delighted such things exist, but just not for me. Too ugly to be what it aspires to be.

One query - does it have traction control or not?

There's the bit in the vid about holiding the button down for 5 secs "and then you're on your own", but there were references later on about its power-to-weight ratio, 2wd and no TC.

There is no doubt... There's a new King, Pagani Automobili. Makes Ferrari F430s look like BMW Z4s...!
yes I have to agree with you..

Horacio Pagani is a breath of fresh air in a time of bland, accountant driven, car designs.
No dout about that. smile

Mr. Pagani has stated several times that they were out for a "air lift off" sensation with the acceleration. I think it is wise of him to play on the new turbo engine set-up rather than trying to anti-lag the whole thing trying to make it look and sound N/A (like I have the impression of BMW trying).
yes being apologetic about the turbo like BMW gives the impression you have something to be apologetic for - maybe acceptable on a mass-produced car subject to the whims of customer demand and EU legislation, but a hypercar is above all that, or at least should be. They could have stuck in an NA engine, but that would give them the immediate problem: how do they beat the previous engine in the Zonda? They couldn't. Although I suppose they could have just kept that one.

The interior is overfussy though. Nice, but overfussy.

Ouchie what a nice car. This Huayra does not look like the Liberace of supercars (TouchingCloth quote).

Still too nice looking to be real bad@$$ . . . sounds grunty and looks elegant: I guess it's 2012.

Pagani switched to this bi-turbo engine to meet ever-tightening emissions regulations, particularly to sell the car in the US. The whole "aircraft during take-off" thing is just Horacio trying to make the most of the obvious lack of character this engine has compared to the old one.

I don't blame Pagani for it: their hand has been forced. Doesn't mean I won't complain about it though smile

Nice, what I think is a customer test ride, video here too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M86dre3cOSY&fea...

... is the driver the big guy (probably a company director too...) that hands the car over to Chris in his vid?
