Looks steep. There's an R plate one with 85K and an FSH on autotrader for £999.
Gotta love those alloys though they're the business - I bet the owner would take an offer....where's my wallet!!You could be right, it's been advertised for almost 3 weeks but I'd be pointing at the R reg green one on Autotrader and sticking withing shed budget rules on price.

Are those the correct wheels? Are they earlier ones from the XJ40? Do they work on the smoother X300? Are they too fussy? I don't fancy trying to keep them clean.

They are the rare V12 option which were available at an extra cost on the other models! You could be right, it's been advertised for almost 3 weeks but I'd be pointing at the R reg green one on Autotrader and sticking withing shed budget rules on price.

Should see high 20s if not better on the motorway. The 4.0-litre XJ (higher geared, admittedly) will do over 30 on a decent M-way run at about 70-80mph.
Travelling through the roadworks on the M1 the other day and thus doing a steady 50, I saw the trip computer nudge 32mpg, I thought "that's almost like a normal car".Ecurie Ecosse said:

Fabulous cars, I can't recommend them enough. I love my 4 litre Sovereign model.
Was the first picture taken at the ski centre in Avimore? There is a nice windy road leading up to it.Fabulous cars, I can't recommend them enough. I love my 4 litre Sovereign model.
Also I've been badly, badly, badly wanting an XJ for a while now and the urge has grown stronger now I've seen this weeks SOTW. The straight 6 engined cars are appealing as the engines are (so I'm told) very, very strong and durable (akin to BMW's M30 Warhorse)

No leather, but it's a manual and under budget:

Automatic and leather are 2 vital components in a wafty Jag!! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/jagua...
Interestingly Autotrader quote the power as 240bhp for the 3 litre lump in the S and only 218 for the 3.2 in the XJ. More modern engine perhaps, is it a Ford derived unit?

The AJ16 engines are really quite something. I ran a 1996 4.0 XJS for 80k miles and the engine was faultless and returned a consistent 26-27 MPG. Much, much better than the later V8s which has Nikasil problems and expensive timing chain issues. If the AC still works, that is one to snap up.
My only thing is the LWB. It is not a nice to look at as the SWB, plus how often are you really in the back. A Daimler 4.0 SWB would be my choice, though unlikely to be shed money.
I would be surprised if that mileage is correct,i know on a £995 car thats not really important but a high percent of cars are clocked, usually when they are 3-4 years old when cooming off fleet use, i always ask the seller for the current mot or V5 ref no and you can do a free mot/mileage check on the dvla web site ,

Also that one linked is an S-type . . . . . although still a lot of car for £900.

It is, the V6 in the S-Type and X-Type (and the later X350 XJ6) use Ford Duratec block with Jaguar head.Interestingly Autotrader quote the power as 240bhp for the 3 litre lump in the S and only 218 for the 3.2 in the XJ. More modern engine perhaps, is it a Ford derived unit?

Christ, what a sorry sight!http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/jagua...
You just know that was someone's pride and joy company car - I suspect they'd have been able to choose from stuff like Omegas, high spec. Mondeos / Passats /Vectra etc., but went for a poverty Jag just for the badge.
