No leather, but it's a manual and under budget:

Christ, what a sorry sight!http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/jagua...
You just know that was someone's pride and joy company car - I suspect they'd have been able to choose from stuff like Omegas, high spec. Mondeos / Passats /Vectra etc., but went for a poverty Jag just for the badge.

However, it is a 16 year old Jag. If you're lucky it might go well for a 6 months or a year even. But sooner or later you need to be prepared for something expensive to happen. What worries me most about cars this old is that a lot of the rubber/polymer seals and bushings tend to go bad ("perish"). Even if it's been well looked after, and although they are relatively inexpensive parts they might not be easy to fix yourself on something like a Jag.
I fear you may have missed the point of SOTW - it's £995! I think every petrol head should own a x300 regardless of engine. THANKS TO THIS SITE AND ITS MEMBERS LOVE OF BARGES I bought an XJ6 3.2 Sport in 2010 for 1600GBP and drove it as an every day smoker for 12 months. Took it for an MOT in month 11 and all it needed was new wiper blades. If I replaced the front bushes I could've driven it for another year of hassle free motoring.
I'm returning to the UK and currently sizing up my next barge here are the contenders.
1. BMW 840csi (4.4 v8)
2. BMW 735i Sport
3. BMW M3 E46 Coupe (18 inch alloys manual)
4. Mercedes CL 55K
5. Mercedes S500
6. Mercedes SL500
I am so excited to get back to UK, sick of driving around on a scooter on this island!

Was the first picture taken at the ski centre in Avimore? There is a nice windy road leading up to it.
Also I've been badly, badly, badly wanting an XJ for a while now and the urge has grown stronger now I've seen this weeks SOTW. The straight 6 engined cars are appealing as the engines are (so I'm told) very, very strong and durable (akin to BMW's M30 Warhorse)

The 6 cylinder cars are very robust, as are the V8s if the tensioners are replaced with the latest version.
I have a 3.2 LWB X300 too (although mine's Sovereign, not a boggo XJ6). With around 220 bhp it will certainly shift if it has to, despite being nearly two tons and over 5m long. The auto box on the 3.2 is mechanically controlled not electronic, so there's less to go wrong. The 3.2 and 4.0 are otherwise practically identical and almost indestructible, provided you remember ignition coils and crank sensors are consumable and the plug to the ABS module might need a wiggle every now and again.
In fact, if I had the folding, I might just pick it up for spares, especially if it has a good headlining.

Riggers no detention this week, however still need to do a bit of homework. According to our friends at the DVLA ,this jag was first registered in 2001 and is a 1995 car and I have it as been imported at some point.
Possibly it was a foreign dictator's official car, check for bullet filler

I've always like the idea of being a chauffuer for mates' weddings (never actually had a chance - using a 3-dr Clio doesn't really give the right look...). Does that make me weird?
I did it three times using a Mk1 (facelift) Mondeo Estate in Dark Green...Worked better than you'd imagine it would with the bunting on - the rest of the time it doubled as a funeral car

With the mileage, it's probably belonged to the civil service (it being RHD rules it out of most foreign powers use) or diplomats or similar - perhaps in Cyp or Gib??Possibly it was a foreign dictator's official car, check for bullet filler
I think a dictator would have specced more toys
I have a 3.2L X300 (standard wheel base) and anyone who says they are slow has probably never driven one TBH.
Yes they are not as fast as the 4.0 or 6.0 V12 but still have plenty of "get up and go" mine has about 180,000 on the clock and still does a good impression of a "scaulded cat" when asked too, I average 23-26 mpg and can get over 30mpg on a motorway run so not too bad.
Its not ideal if you commute 50-100miles to work each day but I'm lucky enough to be able to walk to work and use the car evenings and weekends (execpt when its "TVR weather" which is rare these days).
I paid less then £2k for mine about 5 years ago (a car that was £30k+ new) and have spent very little on it since (and it does show in a cosmetic way) but the car still drives like a Jaguar should and it is so much better than being in a high end Mondeo (which would have had to have been replaced by now) which was the other choice at the time. Previous everyday car as a lolwy Escort Encore (with NO extras at all!)
Most of the running gear is similar to the XJ40 and just as easy to work on if you don't mind a bit of "Heavy engineering" Brakes and suspension etc can be handled by most competant DIYers.
I love my X300 and it is a bit of a "shed" but still a nice high speed 3-piece suite as well.
The big advantage of the X300 over the XJ40 is it is less prone to "tin worm".
Brilliant STOW, can recommend them, the LWB is longer than most parking spaces, so the STD wheel base is better from that view point.
