The LWB will help when it comes to stuff like this:

I'm a convert to the Jaguar X300 cause having owned mine for just over a year. Mine is a standard wheelbase model but it is one of the few cars in which I enjoy being driven almost as much as I enjoy driving. The extra leg room in this one is probably very welcome for those confined to the back bench.

What a magnificent cruiser - won't get you there very quickly, but you won't be too stressed! Lovely.
Yeah, a lot of car for a grand, and it looks like a good one too. Good shed :-)If you can get affordable insurance, can afford the fuel, and are feeling a little brave, there's a lot to like here!
However, it is a 16 year old Jag. If you're lucky it might go well for a 6 months or a year even. But sooner or later you need to be prepared for something expensive to happen. What worries me most about cars this old is that a lot of the rubber/polymer seals and bushings tend to go bad ("perish"). Even if it's been well looked after, and although they are relatively inexpensive parts they might not be easy to fix yourself on something like a Jag.
No leather, but it's a manual and under budget:

I fear you may have missed the point of SOTW - it's £995! carinaman said:

Automatic and leather are 2 vital components in a wafty Jag!! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/jagua...

Looks steep. There's an R plate one with 85K and an FSH on autotrader for £999.My Dad has got the V8 LWB X300 - that certainly has got enough poke to make some progress! Masses of room in the back, although surprisingly little room for the driver.
Also need to watch out for kids in the back playing with the electric seat button on the rear of the passenger seat, which pushes the front seat passenger into the dashboard - is great fun when you are a 4 year old!!

What a great car.
I know the 3.2 is not the most powerful thing in the world but I presume it's perfectly up to motorway wafting duties, 4-up with luggage?
If the mpg is 20ish that would be a perfectly stress-free way of travelling
Should see high 20s if not better on the motorway. The 4.0-litre XJ (higher geared, admittedly) will do over 30 on a decent M-way run at about 70-80mph.I know the 3.2 is not the most powerful thing in the world but I presume it's perfectly up to motorway wafting duties, 4-up with luggage?
