frosted said: Seat's have always been ugly IMO and this just looks like an A3 which is not really a bad thing. A family friend went and bought herself a 1.6 petrol altea and it's been continuously at the dealers with various problems , oh yes and it's worth exactly f k all after 4 years Sure, but you have that with EVERY manufacturer. Had a new Ibiza in 2010, been driven hard (really hard) and not been back to the dealers apart from annual servicing... Cars are complex mechanical and electrical machines which from time to time aren't going to be up to the usual standard. I quite like this, be interested to see it in 3 door form.

Sounds like it should be a nice cut price and better looking alternative to the new A3. Just hope there isn't too much cost cutting inside like they did with the new Ibiza... This. I had the latest ibiza and the interior was s t. Creaks, hard plastics everywhere, seat bolster wore through after 40,000miles...

It's OK. Can't say I like the headlights much, and as usual the lack of RWD is boring (but to be expected) - but I think I'd rather have one than a VW or Audi -branded one.

Considering SEAT promotes itself on TV as having a bunch of 'wacky' designers with 'really individual' 'lateral' ideas, that is remarkably er...sensible. Dictated by it's underpinnings I suspect.
Even Mercedes is becoming interesting with the new A Class so SEAT need to up the ante in future if they are to be considered as the more radical choice.

I hope they use the up-to-date versions of the TDi engines that VW put in Passats, Golfs etc. The existing Leon is s te for emissions so it makes little sense as a company car.

Oh, how wrong and foolish I must have been. That design has aged really well IMO - one of those cars that screams 'thrash me'. You wouldn't find an accountant owning one, I'm sure. Twincam16 said: I actually reckon VW aren't that bothered about Seat simply because they know that if it was allowed to reach its full potential as a brand, it could easily be better than VW. That's a bit tinfoil-hat, but I reckon you're onto something there. Now that decent cars are out of reach for people on benefits, SEAT seems to be appealing to roughly the same customer base as VW, at least in C-segment cars - and the brand image probably has more potential too.

One thing SEAT would need to do is sort out the dealer network - there are some chunky holes where there's no SEAT dealer within easy reach and the exisiting dealers generally have a poor reputation. We had a Ibiza in the family from new and let's just say we won't be buying another SEAT - nothing wrong with the car, it was a cheaper and better equipped Polo.

Looks a good car and the new chassis should be decent. Certainly not as distinctive as its predecessor but that seems to have aged less well than the one which came before it, which still looks good. I had the previous Toledo for a while and it was a great car - styling by Giugiaro no less! All these family boxes tend to look the same because they all do the same job, in fact nowadays the Golf and A3 are actually distinctively different from the herd, because they haven't changed their shape since 1904.
(The current Ibiza looks pleasant, but I didn't like the previous one very much. OK to drive but had a recurring problem of the side windows going down and staying down. A friends diesel went well up to 70,000 miles then the wheel bearings went and the gearbox selectors failed all within a couple of months. Expensive rebuild.)

Good to see the new Leon in development! I wish Seat luck with the new car, I'm sure it will be great, but I coludn't pass by without giving Seat a thumbs up for the original Mk1 Cupra R - a top class job which, despite their best efforts ,seems to date, to have been a hard act for them to follow. The original car had so much potential for develoment which was never exploited. My 'Old Girl' has 115,000 on the clock now and still goes very well - best all round daily driver, fun car, I've ever owned! Nice one Seat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UoxvPk23AI&fea...

The Mk1 LCR was a rare thing for VW to allow them to do - it was the best VAG offering available in its generation and VW will not let their main offerings be outshone again. I loved mine and still miss it 5 years on It's a shame, as I much prefer the Seat designs to VW/Audi/Skoda but they will always be held back by senior management making the whole relationship rather pointless (and this is from a current 2 car Seat household).

Bland, dull and a shame that VAG have given us another pointless Golf variant. Worse than BMC's badge engineering. It is different enough from a Golf to have new tooling etc. But similar enough to be fairly pointless. Give it a soulful interior. Other colours are availble from black and silver.

Both this, the current Leon and the current Golf all use the 1.6 TDI 105 which in Bluemotion/ Ecomotive form delivers 99g/ km co2. This moves the game on further with the latest 2.0 TDI 150 from the new A3 with sub-110g/ km co2 emissions, i.e. better than the 2.0 TDI 140 in the Golf and Passat. This isn't based on the Golf, so its hardly badge engineering.

Looked good though, and the ex decided she wanted it. Currently have a tiny little Ibiza but she's oh-so-dainty to drive after a week with a lumpen, heavy, and thirsty Corsa 1.4 SXi.
