RE: Is the Nurburgring about to go bankrupt?

Maybe I'm misreading this but if they can get rid of the Nurburgring AG holding company and get a management setup with half a clue of a) the notion if a profitable business and b) a love of motorsport then all is well.
I agree, it has a huge following and has always been busy whenever i have been there regardless of the weather. It must be profitale, the volume and pricing at current should be more than adequatehavoc said:

It's such a shame and all down to the classic bean-counters getting involved scenario. They had a vision of what it could be but very little understanding of what was actually wanted.
Oh FFS. Nothing to do with beancounters and everything to do with greedy idiots who think they can make a killing by using their 'contacts' and by trying to tie punters in.This sort of person has more to do with salesmen and politicians, and they're the ones who make a balls-up of it...
Like the party balloon shop that opened down the road from me 2 years ago, Nurburgring AG got the demand for their product so, so wrong and enevitably both have either gone bust or are going bust.

Massive pot of easy money suddenly appears and it gets poured into a thousand pointless projects that line a lot of pockets and pension pots. This sort of person has more to do with salesmen and politicians, and they're the ones who make a balls-up of it...
It's just part of the whole fiasco that has sunk the EU and others.
As the Nurburgring appears to have priced itself out of the bounds of reality looking at the cost of a lap and hotels in the area I have to say this isn't a surprise in the least.
Never mind the standard of driving on tourist days now.
Considering the first lap I ever did was about 2 quid I wonder why it's 8 times the price just over a decade or so on.
To put that into perspective fuel is about 2.5 times the price it was and a pint of beer twice the price.
I won't be shedding a tear if it closes because it's already dead to me.

Yeah, has that actually ever run?
Apparently not. Appears it was made by company known mainly for making vertical-drop tower rides and has a fairly unique air-launch system which 'exploded' and has since been shelved! Shame as it would be quite fun to go through a building on a coaster.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring°racer

Big business is alway bean counters. "The greedy idiots" have an idea and go to the bean counters to get the idea rubber stamped. In this example both parties had absolutely no idea what they were doing and how incredibly far off the mark they were.

You haven't a clue have you, but you think you sound clever by picking a group to blame. OK, carry on...FFS

I went just over a month ago, on a wet evening (spur of the moment decision to take it in whilst I was in Bonn for a couple of days). It was pretty dead. A handful of cars, a coach (!) and a few bikers. Only the bikers were sheltering from the weather and largely didn't seem too interested in doing a lap.
I was left a bit 'meh' about the whole experience. I'm glad I've ticked it off the list, but I wouldn't make a special trip just to do it.
But that's just my opinion.
The big killer for non-Germans is the insurance position - it certainly focuses the mind - and I'd be very wary of doing some proper quick laps there.
Maybe it's the way I approached the circuit, but I didn't see any of the tourist trap nonsense - all I saw was the cafe and shop / kiosk selling overpriced stickers.
It's always been ono verge of being bankrupt so what's new? i think for amount of time/distance for a lap its too cheap in comparison to other european circuits to even cover its costs. And i know teams and manufactures never pay anywhere near real costs for hiring it with Ring management trying to keep everyone on side...

Some people, somewhere came up with a plan, submitted it for funding and it was ok'd by the money men. Either the bean counters were plain stupid, the guys who sold the concept were very, very convincing or it was a mixture of the both; I would suggest the latter.
Sorry to dispel any myths you may believe, but that's nearly always the way it is and it looks like the case here too.

Yep it was the way you approached it!Go up the road through the village and it's like you are in a completely different place
What exactly is going bankrupt?
I though the Nordschleife (which would be the bit I'd not want to see go) was owned by the german government, but run by the company that owns the all of the OTT shopping centre, broken roller coaster and the possibly the F1 circuit.
Surely if this company goes bust the Nordschleife would just end up being run by someone else.

Except the money men who OK it aren't accountants (bean counters), they're bankers / venture capitalists - professional gamblers, about as far from your average accountant as you can get! Some people, somewhere came up with a plan, submitted it for funding and it was ok'd by the money men.
