You can't smoke in a work vehicle.

I'm not sure why anyone would subject their children to fag smoke in such a confined space as a car. If as adults they choose to smoke then that is fine, but at least let them make their own minds up.
Errr, yes you can, I do, and I see lots of it everyday !
Then you are the only person that uses it. If you smoke in my work vehicle you'll need some ice on your plums afterwards.
Oh no, that's me frightened then ....... tt !

But don't worry, you'd never be working with me anyway, I wouldn't allow you to.

It is undoubtedly a stupid thing to do.

However I against new laws on the matter because they are another example of the every widening wedge that is encroaching on our liberties.

watched a great video ages ago by a US cop arguing for the legalisation of drugs - made a great point which was

'the law was designed to protect people from others, not themselves' - i also believe this to be true. Natural selection had been thinning the stupid quite well until all this elf and safety bks!

My point of view on this particular topic is parents shouldnt smoke with their kids in the car, and if they don't realise that then i weep for the future. Do i think there should be a law against it, no, i dont.
Yes, protect others, like children from their cretinous parents.

Obviously parents should realise they shouldn't abuse their children too, but some don't. Weeping for the future doesn't prevent this happening the law does (or at least aspires to)

Just playing devils advocate.

I don't believe parents should be smoking in the same cars as their children. But I also think that there are existing laws regarding childcare that should be better enforced before we introduce new ones.

I would rather every woman sterilised at birth and have to apply to have it reversed by completing a series of tests and having a home visit and background checks!

You know, like if you wanted a pet from the RSPCA.

I hate seeing parents smoking in cars with kids.
But, legislation won't fix it.

The sort of person who would smoke in a car with kids won't be put off by a bit of legislation.
The fact they smoke around kids at all marks them out as selfish uncaring parents who care little for the health of thier kids.

Also (as I read somewhere the other day), what about banning pregnant mothers from smoking, or banning smoking from houses with kids.

Everyone knows the health impact of smoking. Even the most stupid person knows; even if they are in denial.
They know they are harming thier children - they just don't care.

True, isn't this the same??? I'm not saying that any are acceptable, but it does a bit of a random policy. They should look at every aspect of smoking that involves children and come up with something consistent, e.g. You can't be near one.

Unfortunately, this is very correct.

I drop my son off/pick him up from school everyday & often see cars pulling up to drop the kids off - neither the parent or the kids have seatbelts on or booster seats, they'll be smoking (parents - not the kids (yet)) and if it's busy (because they're late) they'll quite happily park on the zigzags rather than walk. The kids will sometimes be eating crisps for breakfast at 9am.

The laws normal people abide by don't apply to people like this.

I think passing a law banning parents from letting kids watch TV would probably result in a more positive outcome. And swearing in front of kids.

The final solution is to ban parents.

Or accept that sometimes bad stuff happens and get on with life.

Yep.
When I see stuff like that I just think 'poor little sod' and silently wish them well.
Even if smoking was banned I'm sure that sort of parent will find others ways to damage them.

The implication being that they are smoking with their kids in the car by way of punishment to their children*? Not all parents who aren't your own are bds!

  • That probably isn't what you meant at all, I'm just being facetious

I can see the justification for banning it with kids in the car (even if it is a bit BAN EVERYTHING!), however banning smoking in a car without kids present? Oh do f**k off.

Um.
Where did you get the idea that I'm talking about punishment.

You inferred that, I didn't imply it at all.
Maybe you misread my post?

Surely all parents that force kids to breath in their cigarette smoke are bds (and not in the born out of wedlock sense)?

I heartily agree. Whilst I'm not a smoker, I have no desire to stop people smoking in their own private space. What next, three points and a £60 fine for picking your nose? It genuinely saddens me that the legislation monkeys are unable to see where they are taking society. It really does.

Apologises have not read all 17 pages.

But why target drivers, what about pregnant women smoking and/or drinking?

Or is that okay?

Believe some States in America prosecute for that.

Eh? Isn't that the whole point, that it isn't their own private space because other people are in it?

Surely smoking SHOULD be banned in the car while driving - I mean mobile phones are and if you drop one it wont burn you or the car, nor do you need to flick parts of your phone out of the window or put it in your gob every 10 seconds, nor does a phone fill your car with rancid smoke decreasing visibility, nor do you have to light your phone.... you get the picture.

Banned for passengers as well?
