I think you mean compare the E34 5 series and the E32 7 series.

You're right, 3/5/7 have looked similar I the past. Look at the e30 3 series and the e28 5 series too.
Oopsie, yes I did. Thanks Ross smile

Why would I want this over a Merc S class or Audi A8? Er, I wouldn't.
The motoring equivalent of grey porridge....
Because it has a nicer interior than both of them and if it drives like the last one then its a considerably more fun/ comfortable car to drive/ be driven in. I don't see how you can say that this is the equivalent of grey porridge when you have mentioned than Audi A8 in your post, quiet possibly the most boring car to grace the earth. Each to their own I guess....

Why is the Brabus Version of the G-Model more popular as AMG?-The Answer is Easy, hes more expensive
for russians more important as taste and so on.
Note:Few German SUV Tuners make only Money with Russians and his Taste.
It must be only extreme expensive without limit.
Its only Beautiful when the price is high,is the price not high is it not good thats the definition for all.
Russians are Badge and Brand junkies.
Thats the mentality of Rich Russians not only now, posing and showing of Status and Success with partly very ugly and tasteless
type of bling bling.
Look at the most Woman in Moscow, too much make up,too much perfume with extreme Redlight but expensive
Clothingstyle from all too much like prostitutes (maybe few of them,i dunno).
Expensive yes,but it looks cheap without class and taste.
Visit Moscow and you know what i mean.
But for russian taste absolutely Tres Chic.
Few Photos of the Suvs contents the K-reg.
Thats interesting,a friend of mine was in moscow for his online magazine and snapped shots of the traffic
for fun and few times later he was stopped by the police for arresting his cameras and deleting the content of her work.
Few times later he heard from a Russian Friend one of the SUV owner in the Stop and Go traffic,a paranoid Moscow "Businessman" had probs with filming his SUV
with K-regs and has called in Panic the Police.
Ah Yes,It was a Black Brabus G-Modelsmile.

Thing is I feel this way about the whole BM range...
Is that purely on looks or just emotional reaction? Being a proper short arse, I can't drive anything bigger than a 5 without looking like I've escaped from Lilliput.

Saint Petersburg sounds like a fascinating place to visit! No police bribes required, thought that was the order of the day?
ST Petersburg is a fascinating place to visit...have been lucky enough to visit on business a few times over the past few years.....Winter best avoided as it gets effin cold, but studded tyres the norm and they just get on with life, unlike us Brits. Where else can you see a Lada side-by-side to a new, lwb Phantom? Yep 4x4's are the norm, and once you ride in a taxi, at speed, you'll appreciate why there are so many 4x4's. And yes they all drive like Marge does in the opening credits of The Simpsons...weave, throttle, brake, horn, swear...not in that order and quite often all at once smile

Cheese on bread! You are joking? Interiors is one area where Bavaria falls short. Not on quality, but ambiance. This wouldn't look out of place on a Trabant.
The exterior though, whether you like it or not can't be denied that it looks the part. Expensive and well conceived. You must be new to cars, or even life so we'll all forgive you for your transgression.

It's an interesting city. I was stopped three times by police whilst walking around and had to show my passport. They were very polite though as there was a new initiative in the city to make the police more tourist friendly.

The driving behavior is generally senseless, especially between traffic lights. This moronic behavior is worse at night. Don't go out at night alone, that's what I was repeatedly told. I rented an apartment on Nevsky Prospekt, and the landlady told me not to open the door when its dark outside as homeless/drug users sometimes try to get in.

I have to point out that I'm not white. I did go out at night (stupidly - but it's pretty at night!) and walked around with my two friends (blonde russian girlys). Got lots of sinister stares, was in the middle of a big fight in a restaurant (nothing to do with me - rival gangs or something), and generally never felt safe. Also there's this culture of using illegal/unmarked taxis which you hail at the side of the street. Lots of stories there of people being robbed/kidnapped/raped after getting into a car with a nutter. Didn't happen to me though, fortunately. I called an official taxi on my last day and he took an hour to get to me!

OR you could go 5 star hotels all the way, have a tour guide (I had one for a day) and not really experience the 'real city'.

Both to be fair. I guess if I was a BM fan I'd be prepared to put up with the rancid looks but, I'm not and so wink

I've got an old picture of my Dad loading up the G for a family holiday, red it was, and picture shows its a Y plate, so ~ 1982/1983.

2,500Kg with 88 bhp, he had three more after that.

Does that make him an early adopter?

Snob. Are only people you approve of allowed to drive what they desire?

All I learnt from this is that (officially) it doesn't use much petrol (which will be untrue, of course) and it gave a bumpy ride. Very useful.

the considerably more powerful M5 (remember, about another 20% more power) puts out just 232g/km on the cycle so sounds about right to me.

i thought the "bumpy" was more to do with the roads and not the suspension.

They aren't illegal/unlicensed taxis - makes it sound like some kind of organised thing - they are just normal people driving around, if you want a ride somewhere, you just stand on the side of the road and stick your hand out - someone who wants to make a couple of quid will stop and you tell them where you want to go, negotiate a price and if you are happy to get in the car with them, you jump in, pass over the roubles and off you go. It is like hitchiking with a charitable donation! smile

On contrast (certainly in Moscow) the REAL taxis (especially the ones at the airports) are run by the mafia - so you makes your choice.

I spent a lot of time in Moscow, only went to St.P once for a friend's wedding in the winter - it was great - a beautiful city and a contrast to Moscow, and plenty of vodka at a wedding or party is always good for international relations! I dunno, I have felt less safe in parts of Coventry than I have in Russia - at the end of the day, it is a big city, with big city problems - but it isn't as bad as the media portray it, although maybe that is because I go around with the locals and don't stand out as a tourist, so don't draw attention to myself.
