Had a lovely silver Mito 120 Veloce, sadly moved it on only to be replaced 6 months later with a badly put together, rough riding, poor performing, rattle bucket 2007 Mini Cooper. . .we want our Mito back!

Interesting what you say about the radio being poor, its better than every other car in its class i've been in. 8 speakers and a full graphic equaliser means after a bit of tinkering you can get it to sound great.

Ref the stop start, you do know it will only cut out when certain criteria are met, including battery over 80% charged, drivers seatbelt on, engine fully up to temperature, and heated rear window not switched on to name a few. Perhaps becuase you only use it as a weekend car the battery charge keeps dropping past a certain point and is stopping it cutting out?

Remember restarting the car the clutch needs to be fully depressed.

Will always love Alfa's but having had a 156 then a 147GTA the current line up is pretty poor with nothing even remotely inspiring.

Alfa needs to up their game and then I will be back.

Haven't driven a Mito but the styling just doesn't grab me like the older ones...
Used to have an Alfetta Sportiva 2.0, styled like a brick but handled like a dream and always felt like I was driving something special...
Girlfriend and I used to lie in bed at night and listen to it crackle with rust on the street.. Aaaaahhh sweet Alfa memories..

By "character" do you mean that it is not very good?

If that is the case, then you can keep character for me.

This Carpool is not much of an advert for Alfa.

OP, thanks for the openness in setting out the cars pluses and minuses.
I don't buy this at all.
I recently swapped a 95bhp Mito for a low-mileage VW Golf GTi Edition 30 and wish I hadn't. It might be quicker and grippier, but that is about it.
The interior is boring, the exterior is boring. The car has so little character or emotion that moving to it from an Alfa has been a huge disappointment despite the improved driving dynamics (mainly due to the extra torque, mind). I have lowered it and put it on some nice wheels and it still doesn't make me want to turn and stare at it like my old Alfa did.

The DNA is a non-issue; it is there for emissions purposes and takes literally a second to change (an Aventador starts in automatic mode for the same reason). For people saying the negatives are too long, that is half of them right there. I too would have preferred one mode, but in traffic it becomes infinitely more desirable.

The stop-start was one of the first systems to be introduced in the supermini class and it can also be turned off, so for those of you complaining that Mr Harvey should not have to deal with it, he doesn't have to because most others don't, but is noting the need for improvement.

Oh, and when I took my Alfa to a VW dealership in the past, I had 5 employees walk up to my car and talk about it for 5 minutes while I was inside. Nobody cares when I pull up in a Golf, modified and limited edition or otherwise.

I am a VW driver and am looking for a way back to Alfa. Say what you want, they are nothing special.

Oh, and VW's 'bulletproof' reliability is a thing of the past. VAG have dropped the ball big time, so lambasting Alfa's 1970s-1990s reputation is pointless.
My Alfa was more reliable than my brother's GTI, my mum's Q7, my uncle's A4, my cousin's Golf TDI or my aunt's Passat, or two of my other aunts' Tourans. The only VAG product that has left in our family is a Mk4 Golf 1.6.

This is definitely true. The Mito, as we all know, was rushed to the shorwoom floor because Alfa Romeo desperately needed a new model (with the Giulia and Giulietta both being delayed) and it has still been a decent enough model.

Luckily, the next 3 years will, apparently, see 5 new models released if the press is to be believed.

Marchionne has sent the Giulia back 3 times because it was not good enough, so I hope that means they are finally serious about building rivals to the BMWs and Mercedes of this world. After all, the Alfas of the past (as people keep harking on) were excellent to drive, but rot out. Surely they have the engineers to make nice cars to own again?

Love my MiTo. Its the 135MA with Alfa's Dual clutch gearbox.
Done about 12,000 miles in it. DNA switch is great for round town, leave it in N for town, then D for open roads. TCT gearbox is fun with the paddle shifters on the wheel.
The Blue&Me will read out txts from my phone plus i can "shout at her" to do things like play music, make a phone call.
Downsides, im going to need a new set of front tyres soon. 13,500 miles and the wear limit is approaching. The boot isnt big enough to get my compound box case in. Averaging 40mpg over the time ive had it.

Still get people eyeing it up, the looks may be "marmite" but i like it.

I've always wondered why Alfas sell so poorly when on paper they're the most appealing cars on the market - but this write-up answers that pretty comprehensively.

It seems to me the days of putting up with foibles like this are seriously numbered. It's fine for a car without engine management, driver aids, or integrated bumpers etc and that you can fix yourself on the weekends, but for something as complex as this, jeeez I'd hate to own one out of warranty.

Still, thank goodness for committed enthusiasts like this owner. Otherwise there's be nothing to look at while driving the company car!-/
