Pistonheads really need to do a proper road test review of this and provide a full write up (with vids of course) so that the rest of us know what we are missing! Seriously would be nice to know what these are actually like in the real world. How well do they deal with pot holes and basically poor road conditions. How much fun are they really when out for a 'drive'. Would be more than willing to participate to give a layman's view as well! Richard

Much though I think Clarkson is a twit, I remember watching his review when these came out & he was impressed even though he didn't expect to be. Then saw one at a motor show & really wanted one for some strange reason, still do but not at £30k! Also want a Morgan 3 wheeler, got to sit in one at FoS, bloke even let me start it up & give it some revs but wouldn't let me drive it!

I drove one of these a few years ago when ecurie25 had one for a wee bit. Bloody odd thing to drive but certainly effective. Needed much more power to deliver proper thrills though - at least 150bhp in that chassis. Does seem rather expensive though at £32k - i think my motorbike-with-a-steering-wheel-esque thrills at that sort of price would go here: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3775007.htm

I like the idea but the ads i've seen previously have all had multiple previous owners which suggests that the novelty wears off. And at £30k it is slap bang in Atom/Caterham territory, both of which you're likely to enjoy for longer. If you really want one then wait til they're a third cheaper, and just hope they haven't all been absorbed by collectors.

All that jazz said: £33k ? Even £30k? It's a motorbike with a lid on it with a lawnmower engine bolted to it. Sorry but I'm just not seeing justification for the price(s) in the pics. £10k at a push. Agree. The performance is dire, a 125 will blow it away in a straight line and in the corners. For £30k I would buy an Aerial Atom and an MV Augusta. £30k

Spotted on of these whilst out looking for a car to buy. I must say, it looked like fun! I am a biker, and would still want a go in one of these. There is something about leaning at those angles, but being sat back like you are in a fighterjet lol. Would never spend that much money on one, although by the sounds of it, it would be a good investment to rent out for people to try, or maybe not. Was pretty fast as well. Did get a video of it going from the lights against a Diesel Audi A4.

Saw one of these in a car park a few years back and had to do a bit of research to find out what it was!! I'd agree with most of the former posts in that I would like to have a go but would pay the asking price to own it!... Clarcksons road test below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zb-MIuXTlEs

This piece is obviously not written by somebody who rides modern motorcycles, 0-62mph in 8 secs top speed 115mph 69hp £33k !!!!!!!!!!!! Even a 20 yr old 400cc motorcycle would give better figures than these and yes I know you would get wet riding the bike but to be honest how many people ride bikes in the wet?? I want to stand on my chair and admit I am a fair weather rider, why, because i have a choice. Gary "the sunny day rider" potter.

I'd like something like the Carver as a commuter car, but it will never happen for £30k a pop!

The Carver might look good but unless you want to be killed or seriously injured I would stay well away from it! I know because I bought one from Richard Thorne in December 2011 and it had only covered 9000 miles. On the 29th. of February I was travelling at around 40 mph when one of the rear pivot bars broke and the car dived into a bank and then slid along the road. It was written off but has now gone to Poland where it may well be rebuilt.
Richard Thorne are advertising new ones and there is also a delivery mileage one for sale at a garage in London, the price has recently been reduced by £5000 because nobody wants it! How can these people be allowed to sell a car which has an acknowledged design fault?
The original Carver firm went bankrupt a few years ago and there were five cars left unsold. One of these was bought by Simon Cowell (the one now for sale in London at Hexagon of Kensington). I emailed Simon and told him what had happened to mine. He had his inspected and replied to my email telling me that the mechanic had found corrosion and parts on the point of breaking! This on a car which is being advertised as a 2012 model but is, in fact, a number of years old.
The problem concerns the design of the rear steering and the pivot bars which are under too much stress. It is a known problem among Carver owners and they have broken on other cars beside mine. The service agent in Holland replaces them with a stronger bar but it is still under stress and will also break eventually. The current producers of the Carver, in Germany, are working on a solution but as they are on a very limited budget they cannot afford to put the vehicle back through the TUV process.
After my Carver was written off I put in an order for a new Boxster, which has now arrived. When you compare the quality of the Porsche with some of the cheap plastics on the interior of the Carver you wonder how they even managed to sell the 200 they did, a number of which have already been destroyed.
