Vtech sucks horribly IMO

I like a nice linear power delivery, with tyre roasting torque low down, howling smoothly up to the redline.
Vtech rofl what a melon!

Sorry it just made me laugh thinking of all my little boy's toys!

You are wrong by the way, VTEC may not be to everybody's taste but they are a triumph of engineering especially the F20 (?) in the S2000, it's a stunning piece of kit!

When you are really in the mood for it the whole drive train makes it a genuinely exciting experience, if you're not in the mood it'll bimble along like an MX5.

You can do that with a 400hp V8 too though and get similar mpg.

VTEC is a device to allow a high performance engine better behaviour and economy when that power is not required. It is not a device to allow an average performing engine to gain high performance. If that was your main aim, you would just fit the aggressive cams and be done with it.

V-Tec V8? scratchchin

Like what Lotus did to the Chevy small block creating the LS1. wink
erm no. Lotus as approximately 0% input into the LS1. wink They did in the late 80's develop some DOHC heads for the LT1 engine, thus making the 32 valve LT5 found in the C4 Corvette ZR-1. Initially making 385hp and latter on 405hp.

Although GM's own LS6 engine in late 90's (based on the LS1) also made 385 and 405hp with OHV from slightly less displacement.

Neither engines used anything like VTEC technology.

I went in an E46 M3 and didn't think the sound was as good as an NSX, but that may be due to different level of soundproofing. Also, there isn't that much of a difference in power outputs for a typical E46 and an NSX with non standard exhaust.
Alas, due to their rare nature, I've not been in an NSX and the only ones I've seen on the road have had moderately sporty exhaust systems, so have sounded phenomenal. Like you say the NSX has similar power output, especially considering it is a good few years older than the multi vanos BMW straight six. I think the M3 engine was highlighted due to it being relatively common, i.e available for those who wish to retrofit it.

The F20C was (still is?) the highest BHP/litre output at 120 BHP/litre.
I believe the Ferrari 458 now has that crown for NA engines, with 127 bhp/litre </nerd>

You have got to be mashing the troll button now, this thread is not called "What car would you like to see an American V8 in?" you know.

I would like to see VTEC in a V8-engined NSX replacement.

My point was you can have exciting and still the ability to bimble without the need for VTEC, i.e. a large displacement V8.

In the context of the thread it's still drivel.

I have a friend with this set up. It's a KS20a running Kpro and a number of internal modifications. He's got two seats in the front and steering wheel. It goes like stink. driving
