Has anyone ever noticed how those older era cars always seemed to have HUGE windows, specifically in this thread, the sharknose and the senator, modern cars seem to be more bodywork/less windows, EU safety stuff I suppose?

Yep. I just changed from a 1996 Jag Sovereign to a 2002 E46 coupe and, though the little BMW is pretty good for frontal visibility, the rear window is little more than a letterbox slot in the mirror. It has a high boot, like most cars post-1995. Sitting in a Citroen C5 a couple of years ago I was very surprised at the lack of all-round vis. Back on topic: pre-facelift examples of the R129 are thin on the ground these days and look ace in your rear-view mirror.

I had a white 24v Senator back in the early 'noughties'. It was civi' spec', not ex-job.
It was incredible wafting down the overtaking lanes with my sidelights on. Almost everyone GTFO of my way, even though they'd been out of service for a good number of years by then.
Cracking car, I miss it too.
I had two, the other one was burgundy but didn't quite have the same effect.
