RE: Spotted: Range Rover three-door

There are three to get, a tax exempt one (you will never get fully original, as seats dont exist), an In Vogue (if you can live with metallic silver blue) or a CSK.
All will rot, as only a land rover knows how, and all will need the engine replacing with a diesel (unless you want something to polish and waxoil)
Have a 1971 with a 300tdi in it, and it is so much better than a defender (a sadist designed that seating position)
Evoque is actually very similar in terms of size
Why diesel? I'd just LPG the V8.All will rot, as only a land rover knows how, and all will need the engine replacing with a diesel (unless you want something to polish and waxoil)

I'm not sure that "corners" is what early RRs do. In the couple I drove it was more a case of "steer a mean course" and hope you don't hit anything.
And 135 bhp ..... is that the most modest output from any V8? (stands back and waits for the deluge of suggestions)
They corner just fine. And 135 bhp ..... is that the most modest output from any V8? (stands back and waits for the deluge of suggestions)
137hp isn't bad for the era. Remember the RR was about low end torque, not outright pace. Also the then current 2.25 4 cylinder engine in the Land Rover Series only made 72hp, so quite a huge difference in performance.

I've been trying to persuade my lovely wife that we need one for years now. She's not budging, especially now the prices are rocketing.
Two stand out features - the yard of carpet on the gear lever, and that unmistakeable shimmy they do going round corners. Nothing else corners the same way.

As such you can really sling them into corners but you have to accept that you will feel that you are going to fall over when you aren't.
I have some big corner speeds out of these cars over the years.
Of course, the 135 bhp is pony but there is nothing to stop you fitting a 400+ conversion and uprated drivetrain and suspension to create an extremely fast road car

MGB V8's were in the same state of tune and they managed to detune it even further for the Series lll Stage 1, under 100 bhp,I think.
Yep. I think with the MGB it was due to the gearbox. And a similar story with the Stage 1, the gearbox and axles (and drum brakes) really weren't up to handling more than 90hp as a factory vehicle. The Classics are starting to have a cult following amongst certain circles; Namley Slone Rangers in the wealthy parts of London who dont mind spending big money on the very best examples of the Range Rover Classic. I should know as i have recently sold my immaculate low mileage Softdash RRC for similar money that would buy a nice Full Fat TDV8 to a chap in central London.

A mate of mine had one these a few years ago it was a rubbish off road we used to go tracking with it n I'd have to pull it out with a Pajero every five mins.
I think its more than likely the tyres than the vehicle!! these are very capable vehicles...Or he didnt know how to drive it!Trusty Steed said:

Course I'd make it up. Behave!!!
On a serious note they should be very. The handle quite well, are fairly nippy, especially for the day. Personally I've seen an indicated 125mph out of a 3.9 auto RR as well as done some other rather silly thing with them.I'm also quite big into trialling Land Rover's, so have seen (and used a Disco, which is an RR with a different body) them do quite a lot off road.

I've a nice, full set of original seats in Palamino. . Plus sets of Wingards and a few other items. All will rot, as only a land rover knows how, and all will need the engine replacing with a diesel (unless you want something to polish and waxoil)

Chassis and frame can be galvanised to prevent the usual rot.
An LS3 fits just as snugly as the RV8.

Nice 1972 (tax exempt) 4 door lol
That's a CCV motor so doesn't need to be road legal, registered or taxed.Nice 1972 (tax exempt) 4 door lol
I don't know if it's on the road or not, although there is nothing illegal about putting an older plate on a vehicle and you could even re-body a Range Rover with relative ease and still keep the vehicles ID
