Have you read the OP's post?

Mine would be Alfa 145 Cloverleaf, first series with tubular manifold.
sierra cosworth is a 3dr hatch its the sapphire cosworth that wouldnt count
Try reading the OP.... wink

Sorry but a Sierra Cosworth is not a hot hatch, you find me a magazine article comparing hot hatches that includes a Cossie, exactly you can't. I know it's a bit of an anomaly but it's more a Coupe to me.

Not the quickest, not the most expensive but when I think hot hatch, Pug 205 GTI is what instantly comes to mind.

I know the Golf GTI started it all, blah blah. But they've just milked it too much and made some shockers. The Pug was there and then gone.

ETA...thought it was just one car, secondly for me then is the Lancia Delta S4. cloud9

Because I own one - Mk1 Golf GTi biggrin

A good mate has a Ph1 Clio 172 and I would say that has to be up there, flawed in areas but a great fun little car.

Jenson Intercepor.

The Lockhead SR71

Both have hatches. Both are hot. What's the problem?

Bias but Suzuki Swift gti for being the underdog and reportedly being an absolute giant killer back in its day.

My five nominations (no particular order):-

  • Mk 1 Golf GTi: well, it's the genesis of the breed AFAIC, and it's still very attractive
  • Integrale EVO II: the ultimate incarnation of maybe (?) the quickest point-to-point B-road hot hatch ever
  • Clio 182 Trophy: the one with the Sachs suspension; I've not read a bad review of one and slayed giants in some ECoTY gatherings
  • Focus RS Mk 1: the catalyst for all "super" hot hatches (IMO) and, again, still looks very fresh today
  • Lotus Sunbeam: for lairy, RWD awesomeness

It was pretty good, but the Charade GTti was even more suprising.
