If we are going to have things done my mpg, it should be by actual mpg, not by mpg based on a fairlyland test that the boffins can abuse and manipulate, which is all Porsche have done here.
Ah, EU consumption test, it brought us some of the most enjoyable aspects of modern cars - ridiculously long gear ratios, downsized turbo engines, electric power steering, start-stop and now some heavyweight sporscars too. I salute to all genius minds behind it.Saw one of these at Goodwood FOS Motor show, absolutely stunning, great detailing and attention to materials/detail (inclufing the luminous spyder badge on the back) but I need to ask why they have moved the exhausts from the side exit to the top of the engine cover, I prefer the former that were on the FOS car.

I believe it's because they dont't want any unnecessary heat transmission to the batteries.Edited by Zajda on Tuesday 31st July 13:57

All of these pictures of the 918 have that generic supercar look. It's a sad day when Porsche follow others on the design front. This just seems to have lost its Porsche-ness about it.
They can't win can they? They usually get bashed round here for just rehashing the same old design ....I think this looks great. Porsche have done a very nice job of improving the looks of the Boxster recently and this 918 looks better than the Carrera GT, which weren't ugly either. I wonder if they can improve the looks of the Panamera and the Cayenne SUV too.
The last picture of the article, the 918 in the Martini livery, looks like a really nice scaletrix model.

That looks fantastic
It does indeed - a Porsche that looks good (excepting the CGT).(I a not a fan of the almost-all-of-them-look-alike-unless-you're-an-expert school of design. I may very well own them at some point, but that will be for the drive, not the looks).

This was from the press release that accompanied the pics and I took it to mean that the '73-'78 period was as title/main sponsor, while '71 was merely 'support'. This is as described in the release:Porsche said:
As early as 1971, a Porsche 917 finished first in the legendary endurance race in Le Mans with the support of Martini
And then:Porsche said:
Martini® was already the official partner of the Porsche factory team between 1973 and 1978. Back then, the attractively designed “Martini® Porsche” race cars with their numerous victories were a centre of conversation. These victories included finishing first overall at Targa-Florio in 1973, winning the Sports Car World Championship in 1976 and overall victories at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1976 and 1977.
In other words we're both correct! Hurrah! And, HandsomeBob, price was 645,000 euros when announced. See here.
