Re: 918 Spyder shows off Martini livery
Discussion
Easy when 'spoken in jest' posts are replied to by acerbic mind numbing morons with no sense of humour!! Back to the OP, looks lovely and being a design reminicent to the Porsche 904 looks suited to that livery.

HOw did this thread go from nice car -> Claimed mpg -> Raping cattle? ...
Easy! Can we please start a petition to ban the EC fuel consumption test as a totally inaccurate and misleading piece of legislation. Wonderful car though I am sure it is, it is totally pointless, can we have engineering designed to genuinely save fuel rather than pass a totally unrealistic test? This car and the Fiat Twin Air are two cars that show how massively flawed the test is from basic cars to supercars, it is meaningless.
If we are going to have things done my mpg, it should be by actual mpg, not by mpg based on a fairlyland test that the boffins can abuse and manipulate, which is all Porsche have done here.

Agreed it's not the most modern of designs (compared to, say, the 458) but it's still stunning especially in the Martini colours.
I love the Martini colours. I also think the car looks fantastic.Strangely I don't love those colours on this car though?

Bloody hell.
" a 570hp 4.6-litre V8 with a hybrid module on the rear axle and additional electric motors on the front for a combined 770hp. At least. Other development goals include a top speed of over 203mph, 0-62mph in less than three seconds, at least 15 miles of electric-only range, CO2 of around 70g/km and combined fuel consumption of around 84mpg"
Call me cynical, but we live in a world where the esteemed, revered, nee deified appliance that is the PH Golf GTI, could only do 26mpg. How on earth is this 570bhp V8 engined car going to do 84mpg on the combined cycle without freewheeling downhill everywhere?
I know Porsche have some clever boffins, but come on, really?
Is it powered by fairy dust maybe?
If you remember when an EU rule stating that each manufacturer had to average some CO2g/km across their range was being implemented, Porsche got upset as they'd never be able to do it. So they produced the 918 as a 2 finger salute, shortly after Porsche were allowed to combine their emmisions with VAG so they can continue to produce cars like the GT2 RS." a 570hp 4.6-litre V8 with a hybrid module on the rear axle and additional electric motors on the front for a combined 770hp. The point about the electric motors, they were designed to be powerful enough to do the entire EU emmisions test and the V8 was just ticking over, that's how they can claim 84mpg. There's only so much energy in a litre of petrol after all.
It was also designed to do 1 lap of the ring quicker than the Carrera GT, I'll say that again, 1 lap. So on it's first lap it's a 770bhp monster, but on lap 2 when the batteries are depleted it's a less quick 570bhp car lugging around a bunch of heavy batteries & electric motors. Must be a frustrating car when you lose 25% of it's power, i do wonder how long it takes to recharge them too?

Under the current BIK rules for cars, its only 70gCO2/km, so 5% BIK. That's still a £31k BIK, though, so £15k or so of tax.
