How much though?

Bonkers.
Can't help but wonder what the power curve looks like (a cliff or a plateau?), or the torque for that matter (peak figure not mentioned anywhere). Quoting a single peak figure to make a headline - it just doesn't tell the full story.

AtomPilot said: P-Jay said: Speaking of range... sorry to be a boring old sod, but what will a 700bhp 2.0 twinblown engine do on a track, 5-10MPG? I was at Oulton two weeks ago in my Atom 3 300 and i worked out i got 8.4mpg over the day so this will struggle to get 5 i would imagine. Darren So, for the sake of being a grumpy bugger call it 4mpg. 8.5gal tank (39 litres) so a 34 mile range. What's that 2.5 laps of the ring - yep, the driver will be dead long before it runs out of fuel, the range is sound

What a fantastically crazy little car! I love things like this, the power to weight ratio is absolutely bonkers for a road legal car! However, if lap times are more your thing rather than strait line performance, I wouldn't be at all surprised if a lesser powered Atom (245/300) would be faster round a track due to traction and drivability characteristics. Unless this is running some traction control (in which case doesn't that defeat the point in having more power?) I'd say that it would want to light up those rear tyres if you were to merely just show the go pedal the sole of your shoe, let alone actually depress it I read an article when the Nissan GT-R was first released (I think on here?) and owners were looking for power upgrades; one of Nissans test drivers said something along the lines of "If you want to go faster, learn how to drive better" Taking nothing away from the creators of this car though... Litre bike speed on 4 wheels, what's not to like?!

Could you survive a week with this sort of power. How to die with your head being pulled of your shoulders with your helmet on. Your final thoughts would be a fire ball on the horizon.

So has any serious thought been given to how this will maintain traction and handle ?

Compared to this Atom (assuming circa 600kg - not as quoted) - A bit more, about the same Current F1 cars have about 740-750bhp from the engine (depends on temp and altitude etc), but also another 80bhp for 6.6s. Victor'd be wrong (not for the first time) 700+ from 2ltrs is doable... the important issue is for how long. 80's F1 turbos where what 1300-1500hp from 1.6ltrs The 34hp 1.6ltr non-turbo diesel in my boat was made in 1960 and runs fine, doubt its had more than 4-5 services over the decades, starts first time everytime, still pushes the boat to the design speed but its masively under stressed. If you only need 34miles @ 700hp (the guesstimated fuel range of this Atom) then it only has to last about half an hour before the block melts :-)

Sounds great... don't think I'd get one on account of the orange indicators.

Surely 700bhp through the wheels will be toooo much (not often I say such things). Surely a sturdy pair of rubber trousers with ties at the bottom would be more appropriate.

Some people have done over 700 on them so it's entirely possible. Haven't got a compressor map to hand to see what they flow be it efficient or not but it's totally possible. Would have thought running at the upper limits of efficiency would be the last thing they'd want to do though! its going to be way out of its efficeny range! Would have thought a GT35r turbo would have been a much better fit.

gofasterrosssco said: GTRene said: does that also means that you tune a VX220 or the lotus Europa that way? those also use a GM Ecotec or is that different... 700hp is mental the 450hp setting would save the engine and his/her driver a bit I guess. The V220 2.2 will have the same basic engine design yes, but I'd guess this is based upon the 'LSJ' 2.0 motor (supercharged) which is popular over in the States. The same basic 2.0L engine is used with a turbo in Vauxhalls and SAABs over here too. The Europa and the turbo VX220 use a different engine. The LSJ engines are ally blocks not the iron used in the VRX engines.
