For some reason, the 911 (Porsche in general, to be honest) has never done anything for me.
Until recently.
All of a sudden they seem to make so much "sense" as a cost / quality / drivability - to the extent where I keep allowing my eye to wander from the S2000. When I mooted replacing my (deeply) beloved Skip to the other half recently - 911 was something even she suggested...
I think you got it. Many cars do things better in isolation but a 911 is one of the few cars that can hustle hard on a track, cruise at high speed on the autobahnn and still tootle to the supermarket.Until recently.

Mine is 23 years old but still excites me when I drive it.
Drove a 997 gt3 on the track and it was epic, but amazing how similar they feel.
Biggest improvement is antilock brakes
This is one of the best carpool storys i have read, its well written and informative. Jack sounds like a decent bloke, and bought the car to use it, not show off at the pub. some bottle to spend £37k and use it on the track,(in case of costly repairs),you did a nice lap on the footage. You have had some decent cars i was thinking of a mk2 focus rs but still not sure what did you think of it

ThanksFocus RSMk2 was an amazing car. Absolutely loved it. The only reason we sold it was because of the amount of attention that it got and as my wife used it most of the time she never felt comfortable. Out of all the cars I have ever owned, that car got the most attention. Mainly in a positive way, but my wife still found it unnerving. So it went.
sorry to go off the stort but i have just spent a hour trying to upload a picture of my current car to the garage in the members section ,thought if anyone interested they could see it,what a nightmare the PH reccomended site is. thought i had done it then when i looked its just a black square, like a lot of other peoples on here.i then tried to contact PH and could not get through. Come on PH cant you make it easier to upload pics on the "your garage" section i9 have about 20 pics of some of my old cars, but its too complicated
Well done Jack, written with thought and experience, the bit about it pulling and pushing around the road is your front toe out of wack, (needs more toe in plus less camber) there's always going to be a tiny bit but the vehicle should be seriously planted even on B type rutted roads.
Yes, fit a cup diff that alone will transform its road manner in a good way, you'll cuss yourself for not doing it sooner.

I was lucky enough to drive a lot of different Porsches for a specialist in godalming, camtune, and my favourites were always 996 GT3's, great cars, you can feel everything that the cars doing, enough power that you never felt you needed more, they are just right, preferred these over the turbo's, c4s, just so much more connection with the driver!
Great article you mentioned you kept first year runnign costc to a minimum but then mention but don't comment on condition of the LSD and clutch, these can be / are some of the largest cost issues on ownership, i've owned three GT3's and two have needed clutches in the mid to late 20k's. Extended warranty is a boon from Porsche if you have it.............. as some times wierd oil leaks can be found..... say no more. Also if you need to swop the clutch move to a SM flywheel?
On loosing the splitters on the motorway?? was it the condition of the carriage way? They don't usually come off without contact on something where they secured properly / is the bottom edge of the front PU damaged? i never lost one even when i started using the cup variant.

2 minutes dead I make it, pretty shifty mate. I've been to Oulton once and the best I did was a 2.01... you git! lol. Nice driving mate.
Presume you're trying to use youtube to time it. It's easier when you have the raw footage, bracket the lap, and use the video editing software to tell you exactly how long the clip is jackwood said:
