Great article you mentioned you kept first year runnign costc to a minimum but then mention but don't comment on condition of the LSD and clutch, these can be / are some of the largest cost issues on ownership, i've owned three GT3's and two have needed clutches in the mid to late 20k's. Extended warranty is a boon from Porsche if you have it.............. as some times wierd oil leaks can be found..... say no more. Also if you need to swop the clutch move to a SM flywheel?

On loosing the splitters on the motorway?? was it the condition of the carriage way? They don't usually come off without contact on something where they secured properly / is the bottom edge of the front PU damaged? i never lost one even when i started using the cup variant.
Hi,

Yes, the diff locks nicely still and you can feel it snagging when manouvering around both forwards and in reverse, so no need for one any time soon.

The clutch is also biting nice and low and there is no sign of it needing replacing either.
Yes, when I get the diff done I'll replace the clutch and go to an SM flywheel at the same time. Might as well get it all done at once while it's apart.

Both splitters I have lost have been Cup ones. The first did take a few bangs as I wasn't aware just how low it was so I'm not surprised that came off. The second I hadn't touched a thing with it, but when it came off I had a bonnet full of booze and was breaking hard coming down a slip road and I think it just clipped the start of the high grip surface they use on these off-ramps now.

Jack, how have I missed this write-up until now?! It all sounds very familiar from my mk1 ownership experience: I think you've totally hit the nail on the head. I love the car. It took me all of one track day to decide to put a cage and harnesses in: a really good mod to do. The other thing you've not mentioned which I would whole-heartedly recommend is a Cup steering wheel. Slightly smaller, slightly closer to the driver, much lighter and much, much better feel. Feel free to have a drive in mine if you'd like to check out the difference. No airbag though, so worth doing in conjunction with the cage / harnesses...

Good write up and vid. Would be my choice of gt3. Get the impression the 996 one is a bit more fun than the newer ones. Also Walter Rhols favourite gt3- go figure.

2 minutes dead I make it, pretty shifty mate. I've been to Oulton once and the best I did was a 2.01... you git! lol. Nice driving mate.
Presume you're trying to use youtube to time it. It's easier when you have the raw footage, bracket the lap, and use the video editing software to tell you exactly how long the clip is wink
2.04 for me so well done mr.wood 1.58 non too shabby for us mere mortals!!

Did you pay extra to have a clear track !! hehe
