I understand full well how it works. He will likely lose a fair chunk of his £40k, but clearly he is fine with that.
I know very little about Ferrari resale values, but from other posters mentioning the 599s predecessor (575) still holding its value at 70k and the cars replacement (F620) being released with a price tag of £220k I doubt the 599 will depreciate much at all.

As pointed out, it doesn't matter much either way, I just think your being a bit naive and taking him for an idiot.

Ferrari depreciation is very much dependent on mileage, probably far more than any other marque and certainly more than Porsche. As was shown further back in this thread the 89K mile 612 was selling for probably half what a similar age car with 30K miles on would retail for.

Having said that and quoting Jim Glickenhaus (of P4/5 Competizione fame) on his signature on Ferrarichat 'Not putting miles on your Ferrari is like not having s*x with your girlfriend so that you can make her more desirable for the next man.'

Quite clearly finance of this type only works for short-medium term ownership. I've described the punt quite clearly: is the car going to lose £40k in the time I own it? Hope not. If it does, I knew what i was getting myself in for.

Oddly, at 8000rpm in second gear with a turn of opposite lock, none of that really matters to me. Suppose I just like cars.

This is a car enthusiast forum, right? Surely the above should veer us back towards discussion of owning & driving a V12 Ferrari, not finance!

Hence why there are so many people providing "mileage correction" services. Or maybe they just have really unreliable odometers.

Presumably they need to do this between services and MOTs.

Which is exactly my take on it from Chris' original writing. There's no way in hell that a 599 bought for £80/90k will be down to £40/50k in 2 years time, which is CH's point, he's taking a punt on a car he believes is down to it's bottom (or very close to) which may well be brave, but it's a risk he's willing to take because he loves cars, and I for one, can't wait to see the resulting departure report to see just how little it cost him biggrin Just wish I had the £40k to do the same frown

I assume that CH isn't responding to the questions on width and initial thoughts since it will follow with the video unfortunately, which doesn't give us that much else to talk about until that arrives tongue out

The replacement is called the F12, not the F620, but otherwise I think you're spot on. The 599 will probably not drop a whole lot more as the F12 is just so expensive. I spoke to a dealer who said that the high price of the 458 has made prices of good F430s rise, as it is a pretty good substitute for a 458. The 599 still has 611BHP, which is a figure that on a production road car 20 years ago would have seemed like something out of science fiction. It is still, and always will be, a seriously fast car, as well as being well made and, as another poster pointed out, a shape that is likely to age extremely well. What's not to like? I can't think of a single thing. Have fun, Chris!

Only proves that Oracle can't match the deal from Ferrari Financial Services, doesn't it?
Does that help? I know how tough reading a thread can be.

Wish Ferrari would do them offer on interest only finance, I'd go and get that yellow F430 from the local showroom this weekend!

Great car to own, love the 599 GTO,I get a bit picky and if I was to own a 599,it'd have to be the GTO version, good think I can't afford one yet!

Always sad to see these threads promptly degenerate into a critique of a persons career and financial affairs. The man has bought and is running a V12 Ferrari and he's letting is come along for the ride!! How a sizeable proportion of Pistonheads has seemingly overlooked this for a near forensic investigation into every car he has ever owned is rather odd in my opinion. We've been told the deposit and the monthly. We need to know no more and for anyone who wasn't told by their parents, it's rude to ask about money.

I wish him good luck and am looking forward to some updates in the coming months.

Remember folks, there's very few 'blogs' regarding ownership of these sorts of cars. I can only think of Evo and Pistonheads although there may be a few more. It would be very unfortunate in the future if Chris Harris and others didn't think it worth the hassle of sharing such an adventure with us!

Cheer up everyone smile

The GTO looks more aggressive and has rarity on its side, and is more powerful. It is about 280K though and a great GTB can be had for much less; budget 125k and there are several available. GTB has about 95% of the performance and so aiming for the GTB is a good plan unless collecting is the thing!

Anybody who thinks Ferrari V12's won't continue to dump in value is deluding themselves. I know from painful experience, I've owned a few of them. The 599 is absolutely the best value "super car" out there, but it'll still continue to fall.

It's funny, I bought almost exactly the same car as Chris, a week or so apart, from the same place, in the same way (except using a trade in)............and nobody's asked me about finance. That tells you something.

Took it for a long drive through the south downs across Hampshire, if flies if you concentrate and use the gears well......handling improves with higher revs.

All smiles.

Oh, and Chris, I passed on the HGTE due to your review...........for me it's a GT.

Don't know him personally, but seem to remember him driving in a Ferrari FF with big poncy glasses an crashing into a curb? Nicely made video though. They get prettier and prettier.
