RE: SOTW: Volvo 850 T5 estate
Discussion
Nice shed, always had a soft spot for the faster Volvo's. I would probably strip the black paint off the alloys myself, but otherwise that looks pretty good for the age / money.
The interior looks pretty tidy as well - leather would be nicer in one of these but again for the money its really not bad at all, good work!

Fantastic cars, I absolutely love mine.
Any excuse to post a video of my exhaust

Nice hitchhikers references.
Shame this car is FWD really... if it were RWD it would be legendary!
Personally I don't see FWD as a disadvantage in terms of road use.Shame this car is FWD really... if it were RWD it would be legendary!
Same old PH Spot the "FWD is rubbish" blinker wearers the last time the 850 T5 was SOTW!

My first "fast" car was a black 850 T5 Saloon auto in CD spec, (top of the range apparently) when I was 21.
I have a huge soft spot for 850's, mainly for the fond memories of 90mph in 2nd gear and the alarming rate it would shred front tyres mid corner leaving clouds of tyre smoke.
If you haven't guessed yet, yes, I am wearing my rose tinted glasses again! It's just a shame I have just bought a Bora otherwise I would have snapped up that Volvo.

C-Max. Rolled down the hill, hit my car, pushed it off (next door's drive) and into the next house. Originally told beyond economical repair, subsequently upgraded to a Cat B and written off. Scrapped without my consent. Not happy about it at all. Complained to Ombudsman but no joy.
Insurance people = s.
Especially a certain company who advertise here who did fk all to help.

Very timely SOTW.
We were in Mallorca on vacation a couple of weeks back. I was out with my wife having dinner in a nice restaurant. Another couple came in and sat near us. I was convinced I knew the man but had no idea where from, although I thought he had been a contestant on Come Dine With Me so on leaving I asked him. Turned out to be Tim Harvey. His wife was most amused as she said some other people had asked the week before if he had been on Master Chef! Tim took it very well.
Anyway...reason for the story is that a long time back (1995 I think) I went to a track day at Goodwood and Tim was giving passenger rides in a T5 Estate. When we got in he asked "do you want it quick or lairy?". Or course we all opted for lairy. I never knew a Volvo could go so sideways! Was an absolutely brilliant lap and raised my opinion of Volvos no end (and of Tim, who I then followed in the BTCC). If they had got Tim to give everyone a lap around Goodwood he could have singlehandedly changed the image of Volvo in the UK I think.

I've been watching this car for a while... I've convinced myself that a black 850 would look very nice parked next to my back Amazon.
Sadly funds are a bit tight at the moment (this 'moment' has lasted about 37 bloody years so far!) otherwise I'd snap that car up.
For 850 quid it seems like a lot of car!

Cracking shed. Ideal for when you need to move wardrobes or coffins at 150mph!
Top Gear just purchased a green auto from a friend of mine for an upcoing "challenge" over in North Africa.

Been using a V70 T5 Estate (with the R chip upgrade) as an every day car for 5 years now (over 50k miles) & absolutely love it. A real "Q" car, plus it'll never get stolen for joy riding by "the lads" despite the performance (you can hear the conversation "whadidya nick this week ..... a Volvo .....!!!!") No street cred there I think.
Before I bought mine I called a mate who had one like the ad to ask about problems etc. His response "well .... I've just had to replace the engine & gearbox .... but it has done 500k miles". He went on to say that he had bought an engine / box from a specialist Volvo dismantler (out
of a written-off police car - under 30k miles guaranteed) for £500.
This one's done 157k miles, so just run in.
Bargain!
