Great shed.

Remember years ago a police 850 estate flew past me on the motorway, probably the fastest thing I've ever seen on a British motorway, must have been over 150.

What's insurance like on these? I imagine for the power they are not bad as they're a bit 'off beat'?
Depends on your circumstances, but if it's not your primary transport then you can get them insured on 'classic' or 'collectable' policies.

I've just insured the S70R in that way, fully comp, mods declared, for a quid shy of £190 biggrin

Small world..

I helped your mate read/clear the fault codes on that car a couple of months back. It was a lovely example, too nice for whatever pain TG are going to subject it to I'm sure!!

Great, another cult car that a car-lover would have loved to own that will be destroyed. Glad I have stopped watching these car-hating ego-maniacs after what they unnecessarily did to the XJS, Mini and Roller in India.

Lovely shed! I've just spent £190 on new front tyres for my T5 though as it ate the previous ones.
I had a standard 850 and fancied some more grunt, spoke to a Volvo tech and he said the T5 drinks and eats front tyres/brakes, I asked about AWD, he said they break transmisions. they are like tanks though and I always felt you would have to hit something very big to come off worst.

yes I've put almost 10K on these tyres in a year and they're just about done. They were almost new P6000s and I've just replaced them with F1 Assymetric 2s.

It likes a drink of super unleaded as well!

But yeah, early V70 nicer to drive than a late 850, but 850's have a certain something to their interiors.
Nice parking.

A really nice SOTW.
It really would be more fun to run lots of iconic sheds like this than use a normal newish economical car.
I've always admired these cars and liked the sound they make.

Great shed, but wrong colour. Needs to be genteel olive green with tan interior and dog guard for true Q-car! I remember when these came out I spotted a guy in a black T5-R carrying a pair of Cannondale bikes on the roof - very pose

They are great cars.

Iconic, comfortable, well built, practical and a fantastic engine.

The spare parts are really cheap too, and they are easy to modify.

Mine has a few tweaks and averages about 25mpg overall which is great for the performance. In comparison, my XJR averages 16.4 mpg overall.

I can't recommend them highly enough. I just wish I'd got one sooner.

Personally I don't see FWD as a disadvantage in terms of road use.

Same old PH rolleyes Spot the "FWD is rubbish" blinker wearers the last time the 850 T5 was SOTW!

I do. My current car has a similar power output to one of these with more torque, yet can happily deploy the lot without spinning £200's worth of tyres into a fine dust within 30 miles. It can also deploy it all without the steering tugging you into the nearest hedge.

So yes, I would say for deploying large amount of power and torque, FWD is rubbish.

He wants to upgrade an £850 850 T5 to an XJR?!

Has this guy just come into money in a big way or something?!
There was one as SOTW a couple of months ago, if I recal. Early N/A XJ40 shape ones (like mine) have only just started going up in value and can still be had for less than that, if they're a little rough.

That's part of the beauty of an XJR though. It always feels like it cost a lot more than it did!

Not owned either… However my Farther has a late Aero and I have driven Mr Ecosse’s T5 quite a lot and I would say that they are very different types of car.

Aero is more refined in its ride and it has a higher spec interior but the 2 cars I have driven there is a good decade between them.
I was really quite shocked at how good Dad’s Aero was at going round the twisty stuff.

The T-5 (ok it has been “tweaked”) is a good bit quicker,
Feels much lighter and smaller over all.
While not as refined as the Aero it could never be classed as anything other than comfortable.
The 5 pot has so much personality and sounds fantastic not something you could say about the SAAB unit.

The T-5 is to my mind the more driver focused of the two.

Shut up you massive fairy!

If I was wealthier I'd buy one just to destroy for that silly comment.

I for one think that it being used for entertainment for the masses is a damn sight better than it being scrapped, and that's likely for cars of this age.
