If it's as good looking as the concept car then it will sell really well.
It tend to agree, that was lovely.

My only concern is that the body under that camo looks nothing like the concept and for me doesn't look at all appealing. I can only hope that it isn't running with the final panels.
Have to say I agree. While it's shape doesn't look exactly bad, I can't honestly say it looks WOW bowl me over sideways good. Which I think it really needs to be. I hate to say it, but it looks more like a matured Honda S2k than a Jag at the moment. Fingers crossed it looks better in release version.

Totally agree... New cars are talked about on various forums, as soon as a spy/camo shot is released it's.... It doesn't look right, designers got it wrong, it needs a whole host of toys & options as standard, not enough power, had to be V8 but oh it's too heavy. Ooh, it's light, that's good, what hardly any goodies them I'm not buying it. No one will buy it... Why can't it be this, have that, all wanted for some totally unrealistic price. And it goes on. Why not wait and see... Wait till the camo comes off.
The XF and Evoque concepts both reflected very closely what we are seeing on the road now so JLR have good form in bringing what they showcase to the market. The F-Type will be the same.

No bait Sir. 24 posts as I've not been a member long and no name as for my own reasons, I'd prefer not to include it.
People are saying it doesn't reflect the concept and my point is that the majority of people on here are in no position to accurately state that. The car is camouflaged, specifically to keep people off the scent for as long as possible. It may turn out like the concept, it may not but judging by JLR's recent offerings, it will.

I thought my point was obvious. Saying it looks like an S2000 when it's covered in camo seems rather naive, wouldn't you agree?

Only if you are misinterpreting what is being said.

Both mine and 300's posts were discussing very clearly how the camo'd car was looking, not how it might look underneath. And both posts make reference to hoping that the panels are being hidden as well.

It certainly doesn't read that way when you say it should be make you say 'wow' (ETA: That was 300 though); how can it when you can't see the detail? The point of the camo is to flatten off any detail to stop the elements that would make you say 'wow' from being seen. This is why it doesn't look very good at the moment.

I can't wait for the 27th Sept so all of this 'it looks crap' can stop.

What we were discussing was that behind the camo wrap the actual panel shapes look decidedly different from the earlier images and not all that exciting at all, so hence the questioning as to whether it was running physically different panels as part of the overall camo.

Yet I didn't. Try again.

Also it's not hugely camouflaged just crazy paint to try and hide some detail and lines. But despite this it still look more tubby tabby than the sleek putty-cat.

No it's not running different panels as part of the camo. As well as breaking up contour lines the camo is hiding some vents etc.

I feared as much. Hopefully the wrap is what is making it look quite dumpy and a little unexciting. frown

It's a small car... It may look it lil dumpy, I don't think it is but can see where you're coming from but it's amazing how a proper paint finish can change the look of a car... We've all seen cars we like but don't work in certain colours so it's asking a lot to get a real feel for a car decked out in camo don't you think?

Definitely. And I'm giving it a huge benefit of the doubt because if I'm totally honest it looks like a dull turd to me frown. Yet the concept was stunning so I'm assuming once uncovered it will improve dramatically.

I can't think of a car that looked great in camo/in semi disguise. I remember Auto car showing pics of a lightly disguised Aventador... No way it promised what we finally got. Same with the new M3 and Range Rover doing the rounds. The camo plays everything down and don't forget the concept was the coupe, we've never seen a full concept for the Roadster.

Again, I agree. But it's going to be quite a leap for this one. I like all the new Jags so I would be very surprised if this isn't a stunner.

I like the look of Jags but they've never been a car I've lusted after, more admired... To me they've always been an older persons car, not Mercedes old but... you get my drift. The XKR is nice but too big, too much over hang out back for the golf bags. Jaguar have managed to reinvent the brand and move away from the backward looking 'traditional' Jags that satisfied diehards while everyone else bought German. Now they are doing good, great business with more modern cars and if the get the F-Type right, and by that I mean the whole experience not just the look then a lot of people looking at Boxsters, 911, SLK, Z4 will have it on the dealer tour before making their decision.

I hope so. I think the Evoque is superb and really caters for an important segment that JLR have been missing out on in the 4x4 space.

I don't think I'd buy one but they now have a really broad range within the SUV concept.

Jag's breakaway from retro was essential and they've done it well. The XJ and XF still stand out from the competition with elegance. The XK is a great looking GT. As you say, they still have the vibe of the older driver but I think that is actually more just legacy and they certainly look younger than they did.

I grew up surrounded by Jags. My Old Man raced them and my childhood is spattered with XKSS', E Types, 120, 140. I have memories of a MkIX and a 420G? And my mother, father and grandfather having XJ12s and 6s at the same time. One of my first cars was my grandfather's Daimler and I've had an XkR since. I'm also on my third RR having grown up with them as well.

So basically, I really want JLR to keep winning. I guess I'm just a bit worried that this new one might not be the elegant but punchy stunner I was expecting.

I think the cars will look stunning... If they are dynamically competive, not just making up the numbers JRL will have a big hit on their hands. Again they have form here, the saloons perform and handle. The Evoque handles very well and not just for a SUV. Proves the engineers know what they are doing... The F-Type needs to deliver, on looks alone Jag are hooking those potential younger customers. We'll know soon enough.
