I would guess that once you add some options they'll be 60k cars not 50k cars... surely that price puts them more into 911 territory rather than cayman?
Have you looked at the price of 911s recently?

I was in the Inverness Jag dealer today, and the salesman seemed very knowledgeable about the F-type. Described the three engine specs is some detail. His dealership have taken three deposits already apparently - he has been told the first demonstrators would be in the dealers by spring 2013. On the topic of price, he said 51-82k depending on the engine. I would guess that once you add some options they'll be 60k cars not 50k cars... surely that price puts them more into 911 territory rather than cayman?

911 start at 72k so 80k with some spec, new Cayman S will be a 50k car so 55-60k once you've added a few bits and bobs.

Just gone and had a look at porsche's website so yeah, I guess I was a little out. About 5k'ish difference between the Cayman S and the lowest output F-type. Fair enough comparison then.

Same here just configured a Boxster S with the kit I'd like, nothing silly but it still came to 60k, those guys from Stuttgart sure know to charge!

Don't see where it fits into the range? It is a completely different car to the XK!
You've got to admit, it's pretty similar. You'd hardly call an XK a comfy 4 seater and I suspect many that are bought are used exclusively as 2 seater only. If this F-Type looks similar with similar engines and power and no manual gearbox, I think there's quite a large degree of overlap.

Is that really any different to the 911 and the Cayman; or the DB9 and the Vantage; or the Evora and the Elise?

I've never really understood the current Aston line up.

But how similar in price will this F-Type be to the XK?

A grandad looking to upgrade?
It looks just like every other large engined British convertible "sports" car boring boring boring.

A long way from the passion of Ferrari Porsche even an old Renault Alpine has that something different.

This thing looks like yet another special for Grandad.

I mean even the Japanese can do presence and powerful !!!!

Seen it without camo have you? Driven it? Well I know you haven't done either.

Would you say what you have just typed to the people who have engineered, built and marketed this car? You'd look like a prized melon in front of them if you did.

Let's hope it looks as good as everyone is expecting it to.

I don't think they should herald it as a succssor to the E-Type - that car was revolutionary.

This would have to be very special to be a patch on it's legend...

Everyones entitled to their opinions, but tbh i just lmao and read this as troll lol or its the type of reply id expect from a competitor, like Porsche or Aston for example...

Like yet another boring evolution of the 911? or Astons that look similar? This car is so far ahead of anything theyve done before, creating new excitied Jaguar customers.. tempting people away from Porsche and Astons and out of their showrooms. Beautiful styling, 500bhp and a good exhaust note... oh yes im soooo bored... lol

Pr1964 said:

Let me think... oh yeah.. 7 billion people? Maybe not so its direct competitors, no one likes to loose their job now do they...

This car is obviously aimed at the younger market, see the advertising, its a 500bhp, Nurburgring developed growling beast. And besides, just because someones has children doesnt mean they cant have fun or enjoy a beautiful car.

Take the Jaguar badges off and the F-type looks more like an Italian Maserati from the future than a british car to me.

Yes a very long way.. in the right direction lol.

Not like this F-type they cant, a Nissan GT-R would kill for these looks, its a great car.. but this beautiful..? no. This new F-type even makes the Ferrari california look a bit plastic and tacky. And the Caymans a nice car but i dont get excitied when i see one.. thats even if i notice it at all.

Current Jaguars look like souped up Volvo saloons or Mazda/Hyundai coupés, I don't think they have the balls to come out with something bold.

Probably not the best example to use, there already following in the X220's footsteps of wowing everyone with an amazing concept only to then start changing the cars best features, what we'l end up with who knows, but the track record on Jag Hypercars is hardly great

Already those interesting twin turbines have given way to some inline 4 turbo

I'm not so sure. I saw it close up at Goodwood, and even though it was covered in disguise panels, what really struck me was how compact it was. It's about the same size as a Z4. That body will be much easier to control in corners, it's all-aluminium which should be light and concentrate the weight low down in the chassis around the drivetrain.

It also made a fantastic noise - think TVR Griffith with the volume turned down a bit - and the driver seemed to be controlling the gears using column-mounted paddles. This may be the same system as found in their saloons, but if it's sharpened up so it changes on demand rather than doing what you merely suggest wjen it gets round to it, I can see it being very sporty.

If they get this right, it'll be the best car TVR never built.
