Where the the Rolls Royce's all LHD - didn't notice that? If so, I guess they've probably got homes already lined up for them.
Judging by the picture of the interior it was pre specced for some foreigner with no taste. Yuk.Hi - Just a quick video I took of the Mini Coopers retrieving the ball from the Hammer Throw.
At first they where just driving around the field and figured it was some kind of promotion, but where surprised to find the true use.

See - Rolls know how to cash in, in style rather than crass remote controlled cars! :-)
Very dissapointed that there wasn't a Caterham present...would be nice to support current manufacturers rather than the old ones that went bust...or got bought by the germans...
What? Caterham is owned Tony Fernandes, the Malaysian professional self publicist who just fired the CEO who opened the door for him and he is closing the factory and moving it out of the reach of its employees. Try Morgan, or stop obsessing about national ownership which is a British obsession and irrelevant to anyone who understands business.Very dissapointed that there wasn't a Caterham present...would be nice to support current manufacturers rather than the old ones that went bust...or got bought by the germans...

they are going to end up in the middle east for many millions
odd that a UK company made them LHD
Yup and no point making a RHD one as there are no buyers in this country willing pay to level of money for such an "exclusive"...odd that a UK company made them LHD
I'd guess one is for the factory / BMW to keep and two for middle eastern
Well they aree doing a better job of keeping the name and factory alive than we have done during the 70s.
Last year was the most successful year for car manafacturing since the early 70s im lead to believe.
Jaguar
Landrover
Lotus
Aston martin
Bentley
Rollys royce
MINI
Mclaren
Then
Honda
toyota
vauxhall
have plants in this country
then you got morgan, gineta, nobel, caterham, westfield who are growing reapidly and are exporting to new markets in asia.
Then the smaller kit car compaines
MEV, toniq, dax various cobra replicas, various 7 replicas, dc cars lambo reps, to name just a few out of the kit car sector.
Don't forget the massive modifying scene, race engines builders, race teams f1 80% of the teams are based in gb, i could go on but the manafacturing side of britian is far from dead it's growing at a massive rate.

Best part for me was Jessie J singing "Its not about the money, money, money" from the back of a Phantom Convertible
Gold Medal for Irony there
It's a little bit possible that you may not have understood what that song is actually about and just how It was almost certainly the most apposite element of the ceremony. Gold Medal for Irony there
A very clever choice, portrayed wisely that just fell into their hands.

BRITISH CAR INDUSTRY ,,,, WELL,,, which one , the one owned by the germans, chinese and indians ,, what a fking joke
I celebrate British manufacturing. We're 6th in the world which is equal to our all time best output. Not sure how it's measured actually, output per population size or what? Either way, far from a depressing picture. I couldn't give a sh*t about the nationality of the owners. The shareholders will almost always be foreign and companies will always go where they can maximize profits. Edited by Hellbound on Monday 13th August 22:44

Indeed. Thanks to foreign owners placing their feet on the throats of union leaders and sacking incompetant, senior management we have the most efficient car manufacturing industries on the planet, building more cars under more badges. Companies like Ford kept some of our most cherished brands alive when they otherwise would now be long gone.
Nissan has kept an important part of England working and brought a whole new way of working and manufacturing with it.
BMW has brought discipline and efficiency to the Midlands.
We are a small island that massively punches above our weight and we import what we need to achieve this. Sometimes what we need to import is skills and new processes.
The people who whinge about foreigners owning large chunks of British industry and assets are being naive as we are one of the largest economies in the world and we actually own far more than most of those who own parts of GB. You cannot go anywhere on this planet where we do not have investment. We own land, factories, companies etc across the world.
We own a magnitude more outside of the UK than foreign investment owns in the UK.
Let's not fall for the scapegoating of successive overspending Govts as well as overspending individuals, when it comes to the game of business and what we own we punch massively above our weight and everyone outside this country knows this.

It just irritates me when people whinge that we don't manufacture anything or that foreigners own everything as tey are just repeating a political doctrine without any questioning or even looking with their own eyes.
When it comes to the motoring industry people cannot separate employment requirements from output levels.

Altough the likes of Jaguar Land Rover Rolls Bentley and MINI are now owned by forigen parent companies they are still British.
I often have conversations with people (mainly classic Mini owners with their heads stuck in the sand) who call MINI German but when I ask about any of the otehr they class them as British how does that work?
Ps I am a classic Mini owner and do not own a MINI but will do one day

So the fact that JLR have just moved to 24 hour production for the first time in 50 years because their Indian owners have invested heavily in good product, providing work locally for employees of Jaguar and the supply chain is a bad thing, is it? daveknott5 said:
Why didn't they use those ramps at the very beginning of the closing ceremony?! I was expecting to see some Red Bull X Fighters style motocross action. They should also have got Russell Swift's team in for some precision stunt driving. Missed opportunity!
