Naturally quite a few London cabs, supplied by members of the London Vintage Taxi Association but I didn't reply in time to get mine in. The new ones were direct from LTI and are all waiting to be sold as pre reg's.

As the opening scene of the closing ceremony was suppose to display the London rush hour, was LT on strike as I didn't see a Routemaster or Borismaster or any other current London bus in the cavalcade?
They could have had Cliff Richard singing 'Summer Holiday' in an RT, as part of the 50 year Rock and Roll theme

Well they aree doing a better job of keeping the name and factory alive than we have done during the 70s.
Last year was the most successful year for car manafacturing since the early 70s im lead to believe.

Jaguar
Landrover
Lotus
Aston martin
Bentley
Rollys royce
MINI
Mclaren

Then

Honda
toyota
vauxhall

have plants in this country

then you got morgan, gineta, nobel, caterham, westfield who are growing reapidly and are exporting to new markets in asia.

Then the smaller kit car compaines

MEV, toniq, dax various cobra replicas, various 7 replicas, dc cars lambo reps, to name just a few out of the kit car sector.

Don't forget the massive modifying scene, race engines builders, race teams f1 80% of the teams are based in gb, i could go on but the manafacturing side of britian is far from dead it's growing at a massive rate.

Well said.

Altough the likes of Jaguar Land Rover Rolls Bentley and MINI are now owned by forigen parent companies they are still British.

I often have conversations with people (mainly classic Mini owners with their heads stuck in the sand) who call MINI German but when I ask about any of the otehr they class them as British how does that work?

Ps I am a classic Mini owner and do not own a MINI but will do one day
As you said head stuck in the sand and most forget that the only reason the original mini lasted till 2001 was because of bmw investment when they bought the rover group in 1992. Rover wanted to end production in 1992 but bmw wanted to keep the car alive so invested heavly in redesigning it with fuel injection, better crash protection etc.

Definitely think an Aston Martin should have been on stage somewhere. After all, it was voted Britains "coolest" brand.

but you are right, so very many stunning ladies there that night, and the bbc camera man always seemed to be on some of them biggrin
Hardly relevant for the thread, but I seriously doubt the cameraman was BBC as they'd have been in big trouble for letting one of their crew into the show area.

More likely it was an OBS (Olympic Broadcasting Services) cameraman, who provide all of the games and event footage that's then sold on to the so-called 'rights holders' like the BBC (excepting NBC of course, who do all their own, American biased, coverage).

Can I just take this opportunity to remind all and sundry what a rubbish car the Ford Corsair was? Styled like a boat it boasted the V4 engine, without a doubt the worst piston engine that Ford, and possibly anyone else, has ever put into production. Any V4 with more than 20,000 miles sounded like it was going to explode at any minute and the mechanical cacophany was accompanied by the most sluggish performance. NSO Ro 80's had their awful wankels replaced as they were a good car - Corsairs went to the scrapper!

If we want to be really anally retentive (and who doesn't) it'll be a freelance camera op working for OBS but for the opening and closing ceremony was being directed by a Done And Dusted director.

I'm always happy.

Are we having a contest to see who knows the most? (watch me fail miserably )

Opening and Closing Ceremony TV Facilities (that's the OB truck, cameras, VT decks, sound, etc) provided by CTV. I can find out who was directing if you want.

Mate of mine was Tech Manager (or Tech Director, not entirely sure) for both ceremonies.

What? Caterham is owned Tony Fernandes, the Malaysian professional self publicist who just fired the CEO who opened the door for him and he is closing the factory and moving it out of the reach of its employees.
Get a grip! Virtually none of what you have said is correct, according to information on the Caterham website, the CEO wasn't fired and the factory isn't being closed rolleyes
Of course, if you know better, simply post the information and the source smile

Although you would be a little surprised to find such information on a company website. wink
