Forget the 'Jaguar pastiche styling'! Get the real thing with 4wd, an extra 60 bhp and RWD feel to the handling- no cam belt either, chain driven! Interior is much nicer then the MG too.

(I know it's a Mondeo)

< Just noticed the w**ker in the above ad has listed at under a grand and then stated in the text that the price is £1,750!! (Reported to AT)

That's a lot cheaper than others on the autotrader website, which are mostly the 120 model anyway. At that price, don't bother with the belts, just risk it. The insurance is the only problem (!)

Depends how you drive it. Drive it sensible and 28-32mpg is pretty easy. My brother used to get around 33mpg out of his. If you use the revs and power a lot though expect lower (I used to get 24-25mpg out of it).

I've always had a soft spot for these, just because they took something so unlikely and managed to make a genuinely decent driver's car out of it.

Shame about the fuel economy and assembly quality control, though. hehe
This was my brothers one. The clock bulb didn't work and he has a minor alarm issue with it, but nothing else.

I averaged 33mpg over nearly a year.
It'll do late 30's on a run, and mid-late 20's on shorter journeys.

Thats good value shedding!
I tried to buy an estate version of this same model (2002 v6 MG 180 tourer) last week which seemed amazing value at £1200 for a one owner with 70k miles and FSH - but someone beat me to it by a few hours.

Sorry. I cant help it. I wouldn't drive that if i was paid £750.

For some strange reason the ZT (75 shape) appeals (maybe the dream of the V8 option) but the 45 shape MG just look old man. Plus having driven a late 45 I have first hand experience of what a lack of real development did for the Rover group.

Dated design and ageing tooling didn't help the cars at all.

We did a track day at rockingham earlier in the year, a father and teenage son was running one of these, they were having a blast...it sounded great, was decently quick, they had their names on the side windows...what more do you want in life?

There wasn't an estate version of the ZS, it would have been a ZT-T you were buying.

Some people wheel out this line again and again. But I'm curious in design terms (in 2002) what exactly is out dated? Or are you simply referring to styling rather than design.

Not sure what the tooling has to do with it either if I'm honest.

I've known a few owners and they were typically Rover - nothing fundamentally wrong with the design, but whether you got one that had been screwed together properly was complete luck. Some are pretty much flawless, some seem to fall to bits every time you go over a bump.

there have been plenty of SOTW i would be very happy with, last weeks gorgeous 850 T5 for instance, just not a rover

a few of them have made me wonder why anyone would run anything else

I always had a soft spot for the facelift saloon with the newer "straights" alloy wheels and the extreme spoiler. Nice cars though despite the slightly dated interior. Then again I am biased as I have owned 4 rovers (3 wedges and one 416 bubble).

How does one go about submitting a car for next weeks SOTW?

Yep you are correct didnt look at the picture properly thought this was a ZT model not the one based on the horrible Rover 45 (aka OAP chariot).

OAP chariot that's the same size as a current Focus with a 180bhp V6?

Good, honest advert. Straigh looking car. If it's lasted this long it's likely to be one that they screwed together properly.

Not my cup of tea personally but if it's your thing would make a decent shed buy IMHO.

In a way the image makes it appeal to me more. At least it means that other ones you see around wont be driven to posers or badge snobs. hehe

Whoop! Local shed. Was considering stopping and having a poke around at this on my way back from work but advert says it's in St Albans. Rubbish.
