I had an s2000. Didn't like the fact it was a convertible. Sold it. You would have thought the previous owner would have mentioned it was a convertible when you bought it. I hate it when you get surprises like that after you've bought the car :-) Said in the advert hard top, I had no reason to disbelieve him On a serious note, it was my first (and last) convertible, just don't like them.

Roof-down motoring is fun on quiet rural roads etc, and I loved driving a convertible at night too - great feeling. However, I found mine (TVRs and a Maserati 4200 Spyder) a chore on the motorway and I felt like a right t t driving in towns/cities.....you forget how much privacy window glass and a roof gives!

Unless it's raining, the roof should be down. That should be law.
My wife hated my Z4 as I ALWAYS dropped the roof regardless of temperature.

Brand new 335i M-Sport back in Sept 2011, got rid of it last month for a whopping £8,500 loss
Worst car ive ever had the misfortune of driving, its only saving grace was the engine which I thought was pretty good

So much love for top-down motoring that my daily shitter doesn't have any roof at all.
…or doors, or windscreen.

we picked the OHs MR2 up from the dealership in Jan when it was -4, we came home with the roof down, my foreheads sticks over the roof rail and it had ice on it ...
if we got another one it would have a powered hood

ReaperCushions said: My Mk1 MX-5 was horrible with the roof up. Hot, crampt, noisy and constantly steaming up.
So I only drove it in the dry, which was hardly ever. I drove mine back from the Le Mans Classic with the roof off all the way. I ended up with very painful sunburn, due to forgetting suncream, but it was a great trip. I drive with the roof off it whenever I can. I'd have a convertible 2 seater over pretty much anything else if I had to choice now.

I've had 2 MX5s - one Mk2 and a Mk3 roadster coupé. I've loved them both. The Mk2 had removeable hardtop that went on in November and came off in March or so. That did mean that I missed out on the odd nice day in the interim. The folding hard top on the Mk3 means that I can take advantage of nice winterdays and go topless. Generally, if it is not raining, the roof is down!

I'm on my sixth, wouldn't be without one.
Modern premium convertibles are so good that there's very little downside to having one. They're as quiet and refined as a coupe with the top up, but a ball of fun with it down.
Or for real "best of both worlds" buy an SLK. A proper coupe with the top up, proper roadster with it down.

Brisk yes Comfortable no, im no expert in cars but i would seriously of thought that BMW would beef up the suspension considering all the extra weight on the hardtop, but alas they didn't as within two days of driving it I managed to bottom out the rear suspension so hard I thought it was going to come through the turrets and the brakes were fighting a loosing battle against its bulk Dont even get me started on BMWs runflat tyre policy

Dont even get me started on BMWs runflat tyre policy Out of interest what are you comparing the 335i to, as I've driven a few M-Sport spec 3 Series convertibles with silly size wheels and thought they made excellent all round cars?

Just do it! Buy a good one and if you find it's not for you then re sell, at least you have given it a try. I believe it's a mind set thing...when I was involved in the trade a regular thing was owners wanting to sell on convertibles after short periods of ownership as they thought their lives would turn into a music video in the south of France every time they dropped the hood! Long term owners tended to be more realistic often having experienced convertibles owned by friends or parents. Give it a go.
