RE: PH Carpool: Lotus Scura
Discussion
I owned one of the other UK cars and loved it. Bought it new from Stratstone Lotus in Leicester. Had a couple of mine problems with mine both fixed under warranty, first one was one of the aircon hoses is held by a stupid secondary plastic clip on another hoses and dislodged causing it to rub on the alternator pulley which caused all the aircon fluid to escape!
Second problem was the accusump sprung a leak and filled the oil with a fine mist of oil.
Took mine on a track day at Gloucester airport and it was fantastic fun, just lacked top speed on the main runway but on the twisty bits it was stunning.
Also took it on the Alpine Petrolhead Nirvana trip in 2010 and it was made for the alpine roads, my only complaint would be lack of front end grip and understeer on the hairpin bends and I think this was because the front tyres never got hot enough on road......trust me I tried to get them hot
That reminds me of one other problem with the passenger side window. Driving along the Italian autostrada on day two of the trip and there was a massive bang sounded like a rock had hit the passenger side of the car then a few seconds later the window started to gentle drop into the door! Turned out the steel cable from the electric window motor had snapped. Temporary fix i.e. gaffer tape and got it fixed under warranty once back in the UK.
The car was also "borrowed" by 2010 Goodwood FoS for Johnny Walker Whiskey display.
I sold the car in June 2011 back to Stratstone Lotus as I was hopefully going to be leaving the UK for the USA and didn't fancy taking the car with me. The re-sale was excellent considering the mileage etc. on the car when I sold it.
I swapped the tyres from Yoko A048s for the winter to Toyos as they offered a lot more potential winter grip and I had killed the original set of Yokos on the Alpine plus I had picked up a nail through the outside edge of one of the rears.
Cleaning the car as Anthony mentioned was actually stupidly easy the procedure was basically wash it but don't polish it. The disconcerting thing was they give you a scouring pad to remove stubborn things like bugs!

On a serious note, can you fit in an Exige at 6'4?
I'm 6'3 and 'fit' in an Exige. No room left for a helmet and/or much movement of any kind Of course you can, this isn't the porsche forum! No intolerant fundamentalism here.
However it does look epic in the flesh. I was fortunate to drive one at Spa and the Nurburgring courtesy of a very generious friend. Those laps will stay with me for some time. It is one of the best looking and most enjoyable cars I've ever driven. I've offered to buy it on several occasions!
I've spent the time since tooing and froing about trading the Elise in for an Exige. Put a deposit down on a Cup260, then the Exige V6 came out... still not sure where this will end!

Woah woah woah, where's all the hatred for matte black come from? I agree it's over-used on a lot of car's that don't deserve it (in the same way that black alloys are massively over-used on the likes of Vauxhall Corsas and TDI Audis), but when it's done on a proper lairy hooligan of a car like this, then it's entirely justified. Perfect combo.

I am not sure it's hatred, merely the view that the colour is somewhat passé. And, despite the irony, I don't think the thread is quite old enough for fashion to come back around on itself.
