Pistonwot said: WHY take the only Subaru people actually wanted (Impreza WRX) comprehensively ruin it, and leave us with such a s tter? Part of Subaru's problem is that it cannot continue to trade in Europe with cars like the WRX making up the bulk of sales. By 2015, Subaru will need to average less than 130g/km across all cars it sells (there is a bit of fiddling with vehicle weights, but that's pretty much the target) In 2011, Subaru's fleet average figure was 179.37g/km - and I think that figure only includes the best performing 65% of cars sold by them, a concession which will not be in place in 2015. The WRX STi is rated at 243g/km of CO2. In 2015, this will happen: EU said: If a manufacturer's average emission levels are above the target set by the limit value curve it will have to pay an excess emissions premium. The more a manufacturer goes above the target, the higher the premium. It will be calculated on the basis of the number of grams per kilometre (g/km) that an average vehicle registered by the manufacturer is above the target, multiplied by the number of cars registered by the manufacturer. A premium of €5 per car registered will apply to the first g/km above the target, €15 for the second g/km, €25 for the third g/km, and €95 for each further g/km. From 2019 every g/km of exceedence will cost €95. You see why Subaru wants out of that market?

So does the EU calculate the average over the range of cars, or the ones that are actually sold? My point is that I can't see Aston selling many Cignets to compensate for every DBwhatever on the road.

It's actual sales, they need to shift some Cygnets to have any effect at all.

Yep emissions targets will kill most if not all of the mid market fast car makers who don't have deep pockets and clients with deep pockets. If they can't break the fleet market then they are dead in the water. Such a shame, we're nearing the end of an era.. Back on the STI thing, never quite worked out why I've not owned an impreza over the years, may have to rectify that one day. Oh and I have resisted the urge to post anything about the name being associated with clap clinics..

I bloody hate the EU. Narrow minded fools.
I fancy just buying one to spite them.

Now this is interesting at £27K the STi looks reasonable value again in this market, as others have said I'd add the rear spoiler and a bit more power. I thought the days of the likes of Evo's and Impreza's was over but at this price they make a lot more sense.

That's a huge amount of performance for not much money.

You know, I don't recall ever being invited to vote on whether I wanted my car choice restricted in this way. Democracy my arse.

Smarter people than us are telling us we're f king up the environment. It's only going to get worse until we have sustainable fusion or cheap and efficient hydrogen fuel cells.

Dumber people than us are telling us how we should change our lifestyle to achieve the ends the smarter people tell them they ought to.
I wonder what happens to all the tax money.
The legitimately claim expenses and conduct themselves to business which to people on the outside may be seen as criminal. (If you believe the bbc panorama program) It's a shame as no amount of goodwill jestures can overcome the level of poluition that China, USA and Brazil pump out.

Having had my STI 330S blow it's engine after 2 years, 20,000 miles and, mainly, mundane commuting, I wouldn't touch one with a very long bargepole. Replaced it with an EVo X FQ330 and it's a better car in every area bar exhaust note.

I saw this deal advertised in my local paper last week & thought about posting it up here. Does look fantastic value doesn't it? Having said that it also looks s t. Bet it's fun though

I'm sure when I bought an 02 STI (first of the hawkeyes) it was £18,500 with 28k on it & there was a brand new 04 sti in the showroom at £27,995. So same price 8 years on, not bad at all.
