When will people learn to apply bullst filters to this sort of story? The last time this came up we were confidently told by some here that within weeks lots of cars would be banned, businesses closed etc. That was bullst. Now here we go again.

IIRC rolymo was one of the leading purveyors of "the sky is falling" doom and gloom stuff back in 2012. He went very quiet when his confident predictions of Global Cataclysm turned out to be completely wrong. Time for another go?

Anyone who actually took the time to read the SOURCE material from the original scare-mongering story would have realised that all the EU was trying to do was harmonise the MOT specification across member states to promote a standard level of test. Upon reading the actual draft Legislation, there was absolutely nothing in the text which promoted the exclusion of modifying your vehicle.

Yes, I'm aware of the irony of this post, since I was one of the original doomsayers in the thread, but I took this as a valuable lesson to actually read things properly before opening ones keyboard.

The Mail publishes a car related EU scare story once every few months. The most recent one was the number plate nonsense - all made up by the Mail as usual. The Mail specialises in playing on the fears of those who seem to derive a perverse pleasure from being frightened, pessimistic and miserable, and PH has plenty of those types! It is good to see that people can change their minds by informing themselves, but not everyone can or wishes to do this. No amount of calm appraisal of what is actually happening (or more often than not not happening) will persuade those who want to believe that the sky is falling that the sky is still up there.

Reply to Trashbat:- Your proposal for a flying plane was vetoed by the EU Parliament on the grounds it was impossible to decide which side of the aircraft/car/vehicle/ conveyance the pilot should sit after crossing the channel. The matter has to be debated by EU committee which could take 10 years to conclude

Every one is so busy "shooting the messenger" they forget to answer the original question :- " Is something going on behind the scenes " that we need to hear about before it is too late.Having been off the arena recently with trips to the A&E and funeral commitments I needed to catch up with developements to date ? like a tornado it is too late, when it's gone by !!

No. The purpose of the Legislation was to harmonise the MOT test across EU member states, so you don't have the same scenario as the US where some States have annual inspections and some don't, and those that don't can have lethal deathtraps running around on the streets, and into the States that do.

I wouldn't like to guess the figures, but the car tuning and modifying marketplace must bring large tax revenue across most of the EU Countries, its simply not in their interests to ban it.

Tut! There's no point being rational or basing conclusions on evidence or any of that dangerous nonsense. "ZOMG!!!! The EU is coming to take our cars!!!!!!" appears to be a form of religious belief for some. IIRC rolymo told us elsewhere on this thread that he has been warning us all of the imminent catastrophe since about 1989, or something like that. There used to be a bloke on Oxford Street with a sandwich board announcing that the world was about to end. I wonder what happened to him?

Eu is coming to take our cars. It's a fact. You is just trying to lul us into false sense of well-being, y'know 'everything is all right' and then all of a sudden, when we are not prepared for it, EU comes and steals our cars. While Romanians are stealing our jobs.
