Why rise to it? If you (generic) want them, buy them. If they aren't your thing keep your money in your pocket and everyone is happy. I wouldn't say im too poor to buy them(a set of OE rubber for my car is £2400 and I can afford those),I can just manage perfectly well without them.

If anyone reading is looking to source some 195/55 R15s nice and early, I have a set of Uniroyal MS+66s. They were awesome, but they only did 1000 miles and look exactly as they did when I fitted them! They'll go on eBay sometime soon, with the Audi 5x112 alloys they're mounted on, but if you want them PM me Damn, if they were only 195/65/15's! I'm sold on Winter tyres after showing up big fancy 4x4's in my little Polo a few years ago

I'm just about to order a pair from mytyres. First time for me this year as I've used my wife's 4x4 for the last couple of winters. Quite looking forward to trying them even though I'm risking an instant fiery death by only fitting them to the front driven wheels.

2 Eagle F1 Summer rears in April 2010 £400 2 Eagle F1 Summer rears this week £515
Looks like prices in general have gone up 25% anyway.
My winter tyre set for comparison cost me £800 all in last year so actually cheaper overall (I think the price went from around £750 to £800 as I was umming and ahhing over them for 2 weeks).
In terms of extra cost for winter tyres I had to buy an extra set of wheels a £800, but as they're original CSL rims and in demand I'll get my money back on them. Winter tyres @ £800 a set are actually cheaper than my summer tyres so when they're on the car I'm saving wear on the expensive tyres.

I'm interested to know how All Seasons perform in the snow compared to winters. I realise it shouldn't be as good, but people with first hand experience usually give a different view to reviews / opinions of those who've never used them etc.

Amazes me the amount of winter tyres on eBay with 3mm tread! What's the point.
I bought 4 Wredestien's last year as they were dirt cheap.

However for Winter tyres they have a much bigger selection and at far better prices.
Just bought a set of Falkens in 205 55 16 for £220 delivered (£55 each)
They also sell the Avons for a similar price (which are what I bought last time and at about the same price so it looks like some are profiteering) Same size as mine, thanks for the heads up - seems a pretty good price that.

I bought 4 Wredestien's last year as they were dirt cheap. Not much point, I'd think, but plenty of cheapskate suckers out there. 3mm is the legal limit for a lot of the parts of Europe that generally need winter tyres anyway so that's probably where all the stock's from. I may well buy winter tyres this year, if I've not sold the car by then; rather a necessity as I'm now living in Sweden for a bit. Luckily tiny wheel size means I can get some for about £45 a corner.

They cease to legally (where required) qualify as winter tyres at 4mm - there's an extra set of tread-wear indicators at 4mm. Of course, they didn't really get tested, but I did a long journey one cold and very wet day and felt glad I'd fitted them. Managed fine with my RWD Merc - I just didn't use it if the weather looked iffy.

Well, thanks to McSam on here I am the owner of a set of virtually new winter tyres for my old W124 4matic estate. Roll on the snow is all I am saying Oh and thanks Sam, thoroughly nice chap with good contacts for getting the tyres fitted (and a new wiper blade) for next to nothing
