I am just about to part with my ITB'd noise machine. I would love to pick up a production car with ITBs in the next few years.

Out of interest what options are there currently for factory ITB set ups? This looks great!

Throttle bodies = WANT.

C'mon PH, give us a video (or at least a sound clip).

This was how they were running them on the day! Popped the bonnet and that's what I got... They did say for production they'd quieten them down a tad, possibly with filtration I guess.

But, for now, what you see is what you get!

This thread is useless without, erm, video with sound.

Yes, for which I have to apologise. We do have some in-car vid but the mount would only fit with the roof down and while I hoped induction noise would win out over wind noise I'm afraid it didn't. Ho hum, we'll just have to book the car out and do it properly!

It wasn't noise but debris that I was thinking a filter would be useful for yikes

Looks great, but are bodies like that a practical production item? ITB's do sound epic though, I hope so!
Why wouldn't they be?
I believe he's referring to the complete lack of air filtration rather than something inherent to the design of ITBs
A bit cryptic on my part - I'm referring to letting ITB's bring out their natural, lovely noise without killing them with OEM-grade filtering efforts. I know there's a fair number of cars that run with them as stock, but they never quite have the raw feel of aftermarket fitted ones with a thinish filter etc. smile
Do you mean like on M3s where they cover the throttle bodies with a big airbox?

I think it'd be pretty easy to find loads of cars slower and more expensive than a GT86. You should start a thread.

How is it slower, he doesn't quote any figures. The standard 2.0ltr sport quote the same 0-60 time as the GT86.
I can't see Mazda actually putting this into production, but I would like to know how much it would cost as an after market tune up grade. Is it a cheaper alternative to the BBR supercharger at 5-6k. More details please and vid and sound needed.

Awesome but still too expensive.

I think I'd rather go the whole hog and get a Ginetta G40R for my £30k. It won't have the creature comforts the Mazda has but it'd be arguably a better drive.

It won't be though will it.

The existing MX5 is virtually on a par with the GT (if 0-60 is mid 7s), so with an extra 40bhp mazda are expecting this to drop into the mid-low 6s non?

Exactly my thought.

Merely a reflection on my wallet and not the cars worth.

I'd agree. I own a Mk3.5 Sport Tech Coupe. The article states they are 23k so hence this is a 7k premium. The reality is nobody pays more than 19 for a top spec Sport Tech and I paid 17.5 - that is brand new, first owner, out of the showroom.

So, what we are talking about here in real terms is a 12-13k premium over the standard car - which DOES make it too expensive. Don't get me wrong, I understand the pricing with respect to Mazda's RRP - the problem being no-one pays RRP for MX-5s.

I spoke to the guy on the stand about this at the FoS and he basically said their hands were tied over the pricing. Shame.

In the article body you mention a redline of 7,800rpm but in the stats you say 6,000rpm?

6,000rpm is lower than the standard car?

That was the info supplied but, as stated, redline is currently 7,800rpm. Richard from Omex is still playing with maps and tuning so it's all TBC on that score.

Cheers,

Dan

Regarding the on-board vid:

Who was the bint driving? I know it said she was an MX5 endurance racer but she looked like she didn't have a clue. She hit the rev limiter in pretty much each gear. Very odd.
