In the article body you mention a redline of 7,800rpm but in the stats you say 6,000rpm?
6,000rpm is lower than the standard car?
What theyre quoting is max power @ rpm, not specifically the redline. So it will rev to 7800rpm, but mac power is at 6000rpm6,000rpm is lower than the standard car?
Oh and to the person who said about 7k extra for a few bits and pieces, if i had the same on my st (engine wise) you would be looking at topping nearly 3k for the engine work alone.

£30k !!!
You could get a used 997 for that!
You could get three Fiat 500s!You could get a used 997 for that!
While we're being silly. What about a Golf GTi??
The reason for the quip was that most GT-86 threads seem to descend into some berk arguing that we should all buy 15 year old M3s instead.

£7000 over the top spec regular MX-5. Must be one hell of a strange tuning to warrant that much money.
Couldn't you just turbocharge a regular 2litre MX-5 for that money? Or fiddle the ECU?
I imagine the throttle bodies are pretty expensive, as far as I know they are a relatively new development for the Mk3/NC. Couldn't you just turbocharge a regular 2litre MX-5 for that money? Or fiddle the ECU?
I use miata.net as the Mk3s seem to be far more popular for modifying in the US, I don't recall ever seeing any thread about ITBs on Mk3s, I only remember one person saying they weren't possible. The usual manifolds, de-cat (well, both cats, the manifolds being the primary), exhaust etc. sees good gains as far as I know; these guys achieved 226ps with Tomei cams and some internals work http://tinyurl.com/89taeow Until now I didn't know there was any other way than cams to achieve over 200bhp NA.
fao. any genuine mx5 experts here, I'm not completely sure what I'm talking about (I've now been typing this for nearly an hour...)
...I have a Racing Beat exhaust on mine and want to add their centre pipe, and change the manifolds, but I'm unsure/worried what it means for an MOT. There is an aftermarket manifold retaining the cat in the US for certain SCCA categories, I know that Goodwin racing were working on a cheaper version (a few Japanese tuning companies produce them also), but it was to my suprise the other day that IL Motorsports are now stocking one, would it be legal here? even necessary?

Two words:
BUILD IT
Now just a bit more:
Just 40 or so more horsepower is just not enough. Seems like a different level of MX-5, with around 300 high-revving hp is what we really want. Mazda has convinced us all that it's just unimaginable so we salivate over barely 40. Too bad.

Don't worry, I got your meaning!

agree, but I'm not sure there are any 2.0 NA enigines that can make 100bhp/litre @6000rpm ??Oh and to the person who said about 7k extra for a few bits and pieces, if i had the same on my st (engine wise) you would be looking at topping nearly 3k for the engine work alone.

Awesome but still too expensive.
I'd agree. I own a Mk3.5 Sport Tech Coupe. The article states they are 23k so hence this is a 7k premium. The reality is nobody pays more than 19 for a top spec Sport Tech and I paid 17.5 - that is brand new, first owner, out of the showroom. So, what we are talking about here in real terms is a 12-13k premium over the standard car - which DOES make it too expensive. Don't get me wrong, I understand the pricing with respect to Mazda's RRP - the problem being no-one pays RRP for MX-5s.
I spoke to the guy on the stand about this at the FoS and he basically said their hands were tied over the pricing. Shame.
Far, far too expensive. Shame really. Will be better to wait for the joint roadster offering from Alfa and Mazda (if it ever happens)
I saw this do two runs at the Festival of Speed and it was one of the best sounding cars there, bar none. Quite a suprise when you think of all the high end exotica there. I have always liked MX5 and for those who can crawl past the hairdresser stigma that sadly comes attached to this car they will be blessed with one of the most sweet handling, little bundles of driving joy i have had the pleasure of driving. I cannot praise Mazda enough for persisting over the years, they really can turn out some wonderful cars. I do think £30k is a tad expensive but then what new car will come close to the fluidity and balance that an MX5 can offer and as for the noise, wow!

My mk1 2.0 focus is lighter than this, I have removed the back seats, carpets, stereo and aircon admitedly. Could be lighter with a bit more bhp, for 30k, no way jose!
That's all very well, but what's it got to do with the price of milk?!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
