This makes me want to get back in an R34 GTR, don't usually miss it but reading stuff like this does make me miss it! The press car's did get sold on, T4 GTR is in Birmingham as far as I am aware, the owner also has a few other models and they're stored in a warehouse somewhere.

GTR nut at heart me,i'm also the area rep for the owners club. I've driven a totally stock bar uprated backbox R34 GTR before and they're quite boring and tame compared to a "stage 1" tuned example. Also driven a stock R33 GTR and again felt abit bored but then again the one's my dad and I have owned have had over 400bhp with my last one having most of the HKS engine parts thrown at it as well biggrin

One day i'll get back into one!

Most characterful modern sports car I have ever driven and still top of my list for modern cars to have owned.

Aways have to have a final look back, even after 10 years!

Thanks for the great photo Dean

Watched one of these with 700+bhp racing at Thruxton last weekend and it was going tremendously well. Actually lapped a couple of (Sierra & Escort) Cosworths within 10 mins.

I would still like to have a drive in a standard one though on the road.

I really miss mine frown Had an R32 GT-R and still own an R32 GTSt. Walking in to the office today and seeing V16 SKY in Dan's space gave a little nostalgic moment. I want another one but just can't justify spending that much money again. I couldn't leave it un-touched!

Knowing when to stop is the problem. Properly set-up 2860-5s is probably the sensible sweet spot.

Have to say I miss having an R34 around to use. After 5 TVR's of agg dad drove my R32 and sent me off with 35k to buy him the meanest looking R34 going. No mental tune/triple plate clutch but at least 400bhp. I found him this one...one of the 80 UK V-spec cars that had since had 20k spent on it (4k just on those front Enzo brakes).
The best bit was that, like most of his cars, he never really used it so for 5 years it spent a lot of time down my way smile
It wasn't as agile as my R32 but it just had such road presence. Ok, I'm biased but when my ex came hooning up behind me in it the view in the mirror was utterly mesmerising. I don't know, it just looked 'special'. And, out of all the TVR's and other decent stuff I've never used a car that attracts so much positive attention. Kids would whisper and nudge each other 'skyline!' as they saw it approaching. End of the day it was a Nissan family saloon with some extended bodywork, big wheels and a very nice sounding engine but something about the whole Gran Turismo and '1000bhp' image meant it had an almost deity like status to some people.
I'm sure you could keep it honest in a straight line with some of the latest uber-performance diesels but, as the poster above said, I always took a look back it when walking off (and usually grinned)
Evil step-mum (Chinese) said it was Japanese rubbish and made me sell it to pay for part of a Kitchen or something. Haven't seen dad since I sold it last year and, last weekend when we hooked up, he admitted that he never should have let her talk him into selling it. Women eh?

Ben

you know one of the best things about these cars is their practicality...easy to drive, plenty of visibilty, big boot, loads of room in the back....

oh, and they go like s*** as well....

A cracked headlight, bit of bumper damage and knackered intercooler ducting does not a terminal car make.

Alas for me that togue session was several years old+ before Best Motoring International translated and released it as I tried to get hold of the suspecnsion pack on that FD3 for mine - by then Re-Amimaya had dropped those components and I could not work out what the replacement was 9aside from potentially expensive).

Terminal in terms of the trip, not the car! Basically Nissan said 'game over' and wanted the car recovered given that the Le Mans Nissan guys didn't seem to know where to start. So that was us in a rental for the way home. Strangely Avis were fresh out of Skylines and we ended up in a Citroen Picasso. I think that's called karma...

'A cracked headlight, bit of bumper damage and knackered intercooler ducting does not a terminal car make'

No, but it's knee-trembling when you find out the cost of genuine Nissan parts. It's a bit like BMW, anything specific to the M-models incurrs a special 'M' tax. you have 'GTR' tax and then the even more special 'V-spec' tax. Bumpers and intercoolers are hideously expensive. The most ludicrous is the rear carbon fiber 'diffuser' (specific to V-spec models). I was about to trundle around with it cable tied on whilst I waited for some mounts to be fabricated and then a tuner showed me the cost of the genuine V-Spec item..over 7k + VAT..mental!

I've watched the original Top Gear Tiff review of it and there is much hyperbole about the mighty performance but, I must confess, that when on standard boost it felt a bit lethargic? Maybe it was because the power delivery was quite linear but it didn't blow me away even when jumping into it straight from something 'normal' like a 328 BMW. With boost set at the 'maximum the standard turbo's can take' 1 bar/15PSI though (and with appropriate other mods), that's when it's fun. The noise between 6 and 8k with a decent exhaust is also utterly addictive..as are the flames/mortar 'crumps' every so often. It those little things added together along with the presence and the brutal looks that made it such a special car.

Is it just me or, as standard do the wheels look too far inboard, too small and too much clearance? Purely looks I'm talking here...

Ben

Ben, I loved this car from the second you posted them pictures up on GTROC! I know where this car is now, if you go to the post events section on gtroc you'll see picture of my old yellow one, this one, and another black one in a thread created by toni619. The car is currently in Birmingham in an underground car park near the Mailbox, the owner hasn't driven the car much/at all since owning it as he spends alot of time in China (Chinese foreign student at Birmingham Uni) and also has an R35 GTR in China. It's a great looking car and those brakes are amazing, had a good look around it and it sounds awesome! It's been parked up for quite a few months, without it moving once when we took the pictures and then parked back up again frown - I was there when it got started after 5 months of being stationary and made sure we cranked it over with the CAS disconnected to get some oil pressure up first, and then fired up right away. Told the owner to empty the tank as it's got some old V-Power in there, shame it's nearly a full tank of it as well!! PM me if you want any more info etc on the car smile. I have asked to have use of the car many times while the owner is away, he always says no lol

I had the great priviledge of sitting in and hearing beast when I visited the Mines boy in Japn in Tokyo in 2007 when I went to Japan with the GTROC to see the new R35 GTR (Which I now own, as well as my beloved 14 year old R33 GTR)

Nissan "Sklines" (and the new GTR) RULE !!
