I think we should all aspire to ownership of a German TDI saloon or hatch with 1.6-2.0 of engine and no more than 170bhp, only then will we all understand what it is like to own a car that is perfect in the real world. Sports cars and Luxury off roaders are a mere distraction from the mundanity that fills the lives of image enthusiasts everywhere and we must learn that we too will eventually be assimilated into the TDI collective.

Resistance is futile!

The irony is of course that in certain situations the RR diesel will be as fast or faster than a sports car.

I can cross any city far faster in a Rangie than any sports car. Likewise any field or woodland. And I reckon I can get to Germany quicker. Let's also not forget it will transport the family in a single trip.

So, if speed really is all that matters then this is an extremely relevant lump of kit.

But then speed isn't the real issue here. smile

Wonderful cars, perfect for cruising up and down the motorway or any off road adventures. I'd love one. Lovely places to sit as well that cabin.

oh come on now, it's not that fast laugh
Although surely you meant 5.0l supercharged V8 petrol? Find it hard to believe the diesel is quicker.

As above sweet baby jesus is the RR nice inside! Not sure about the wood on the L405 though rofl

Ahh, I wouldn't worry. I wheeled that fine comment out for our man Pinstonwot wayyy back on page two smile This has become rather sad though.

I think the problem for him, looking at it subjectively, is that in his mind a petrolhead is someone who likes sports or just 'fast' cars, but not necessarily other types. Which, of course, is completely wrong. A petrolhead is a car enthusiast, whether that enthusiasm is aimed at a Range Rover going 4mph through what it really shouldn't be able to trudge through, a 250 GTO flying around Monza or an immaculate Golf GTI is irrelevant.

Broaden your horizons!
I have very broad horizons ta very muchly.
Thats why I dont take well to being told to limit them like this and/or what I can and should think.

Nor do I appreciate such pathetic attempts at selling a st sandwich dressed up as a gourmet meal.
Doesnt matter how many doth protest "it be not st sir for I myself did eat one"
We know what it is and fk you very much!

Also for future reference, words generally have clear definitions. Petrolhead does as a matter of fact mean a car fanatic.
That is CAR fanatic. It really does mean CAR fanatic. Now look at what CAR means, you and the others really need to.
Lastly look up 4x4
(Shakespeare couldnt make up such a tale of ignorance)

Slowly now, CAAAAAAAAAR faaaannnnnaaaaatttiiiic!

Lets look at what we are discussing now.
A story.
A story on PH.
A story on PH that is about a Diesel 4x4.
A story on PH that is about a Diesel 4x4 that is not in any way a car.

Am I accidentally on Pumpkin-Heads?
Apologies if I am and it sure seems that way, I guess that would account for the curious penchant and desire to discuss diesel farming equipment on a petrolheads forum. (see Petrolhead definition)

Pistonwot, thank you for your views. Interesting. Anyway, while we get back to talking Range Rovers, you have a busy evening ahead of you: if you go onto Gassing Station you will find hundreds of threads on topics as diverse as Food and Drink, Photography and Holidays, none of which has anything to do with cars, speed or anything else Pistonheads was originally set up to do. You need to get busy telling all those guys and gals they are talking about the wrong stuff, too. Please, hurry up and get on with it!

Now the rest of you, please can we get back on topic and ignore any further nonsense of this variety.

cheers

Here is my attempt to get back on topic:

My Range in the Galgalu Desert, Northern Kenya, 2 days drive from any civilisation let alone roads

Range camping in the middle of nowhere, Northern Sudan. Not a broken gearbox in sight!

And finally, my Range showing how well it works with the fun (read less practical) cars

Let's have some more good RR stories / pics

I think the V5 will probably say 'passenger car' on it somewhere.

Good man. My one decided to put us down a Green Lane in winter when I chose 'most direct route' after a lovely pub lunch. hehe No pictures, but my wife was sure she heard banjos... We made it on road tyres, with 3 ft ruts, and 2 ft solid rock drop-offs. Amazing car.

Google 'Cockshot Lane Steep'.

Not my picture, or a RR, but you get the idea
