Yawn, yawn, yawn. Another 9 something that looks like all the previous uninspiring 9 somethings. Needs 4 wheels drive so as not to be dangerous. Porsche are stuck in such a deep rut with this car they do not have the guts to get out of it and really do something great.
Off to Aston, McLaren, Ferrari, Toyota, Lotus, actually anyone who make a car that lights your emotions rather than twitching curtains of Jones must keep up with sheep in Chelsea.

Oh and as for why Brown is a common colour at the moment - well from an economics point of view the last time metallic turd was all the rage the world was mired in the fuel crisis inspired recessions of the 1970's, I just don't know which comes first so to speak.

Not usually an issue with the engine out back and RWD, in my experience anyway.
So are you saying that 4wd is redundant?

(Out of interest, what is your experience?)

Surely the 4wd is there for additional grip in slippy situations so it means a 911 owner who lives in an area which suffers adverse weather can use what is generally regarded as an everyday supercar, every day ?

It isnt some admission of a lack of manhood going for the 4wd variant, the 2wd will have lots of electronics to keep it out of hedgerows, some people dont actually want a car that threatens to swap ends the minute is gets damp, for all the crap talked on here an old school 911 will scare the pants off most people if they take liberties, talking on forums, in a comfy office or at the pc at home is all very well but out there on a cold, wet winters day I just revert to being a big girls blouse.

You will be greatly missed. I'd hate to be a Porsche shareholder now after that public revelation, they must be spluttering into their Coco Pops after realising the loss of a such an important potential buyer.

Toyota will be pleased though, they have a lovely 2 wheel drive Aygo lined up for you, that your neighbours won't even twitch an eyelid over.

Why is every thread about a Porsche 911 so predictable...

A reflection of the cars, perhaps?

991 is growing on me but for me, the 997 is the best looking Carrera or maybe a 993 C2S scratchchin

Love the look of the 991 and the 4 does look good in the pictures. I drove the 997 Carrera and the 4 at Silverstone and must admit my preference was for the 4 nuts

Yeah I guess, I mean after all it's a car with a 50 year history, a sports car icon with brilliant handling/speed/practicality, the benchmark by which others are judged and made by the most successful motorsport manufacturer ever.

I was at the Silverstone PEC the other week driving a 991 and I have to say it really was dull and boring, all that flat 6 noise, handling poise and speed I mean who would want a car like that!

PH 911 bashing matters.

His point in that post was that 911s are predicable, not that they were rubbish. Lets face it, each new 911 has hardly been a shock has it? Part of the charm for me is the constant evolution.

For the record: I like 911s.

My post about predictability was aimed at the usual clap trap trotted out by people who have never even driven one as it appears on every thread that involves the 911.

And I wasn't having a go at "hemightbebanned" if it comes across that way that wasn't my intention.

I like them too....does it show? biggrin

Surely you don't need to have driven a car to comment on it's predictable aesthetics or any part of it's aesthetics? Should I drive a MINI Countryman before concluding it looks like an inflated hippopotamus?

That's not to say I wouldn't like to drive a 911 as I've never driven one, having last been put off by a custard-coloured interior on a blue 996 which was the closest I got. Doesn't mean I would buy one though if I was fundamentally repelled by the design (I'm not, just saying...)

You clearly dont 'get' the model and the branding, its the very ethos and reason of the car your attacking, so dont buy it, plenty of people will.

I think its a real shame you cant have the wide rear with 2WD, like the 993. I think I'd still have to have a CarreraS and spend the £7k difference on some fruity options.
So the same as the 997 GTS........There will be a 991 equivalent come run out time (and I will be in the queue).

Now. In my 21 years of being a massive 911 fan. This picture is the first ever pic. From any angle, of any 911 convertible variant that looks like something I'd consider buying!

The badges on the back look f-ing awful!
badges look like when someone has stuck an M badge on their BMW 3 series etc hehe

Of course not, I think the new 991 looks great, better looking than the 997/6 era cars although I think the 997's base styling lent itself to the GT cars with their big wings and aggressive front aprons and I'm struggling to see how the 991 GT cars will top them looks wise.

It's the "crap/boring oh no not this over priced rubbish again" posts that are so puerile they grate..
