991 is growing on me but for me, the 997 is the best looking Carrera or maybe a 993 C2S scratchchin

I agree! The 997 (esp. the 997.2) fuses the classic-look with the modern-look.
The 991 is cool as well, but it is notably more contemporary from the rear (and hence less like the 'classic' 911) than the 997.

Surely the 4wd is there for additional grip in slippy situations so it means a 911 owner who lives in an area which suffers adverse weather can use what is generally regarded as an everyday supercar, every day ?

It isnt some admission of a lack of manhood going for the 4wd variant, the 2wd will have lots of electronics to keep it out of hedgerows, some people dont actually want a car that threatens to swap ends the minute is gets damp, for all the crap talked on here an old school 911 will scare the pants off most people if they take liberties, talking on forums, in a comfy office or at the pc at home is all very well but out there on a cold, wet winters day I just revert to being a big girls blouse.
I'm one of those pussies with a c4s (997.1) and very glad of it. Coming off a roundabout in the wet last night, admittedly a little too fast and the back end swung out quite violently - possibly a little oil on the road, or maybe me just being a crap driver, but it didnt feel like a 'normal' slip.

Before I had finished processing the 'what the f***' thought, the front end kicked in and pulled it all back straight again.

I can't say for sure would have happened in a rwd only, but I suspect it would have involved the kerb, some expense and facing backwards.

It's my only car, so I drive it pretty much regardless of conditions, and the arse end looks much sexier. Can't think of a car I'd rather have TBH.. apart from maybe a turbo. Maybe next time...
