RE: Time For Tea? Brock at work

Aye. Brocky had to the wring the neck of that thing lap after lap, just to keep the smaller, lighter, better handling sierras and (4WD) GTRs in sight, as demonstrated by Seton easily slipping up the inside at the chase. He was vastly outgunned for a few years there. For a nice contrast, have a look at this video, same driver, same circuit, two years earlier and it's a faster lap, but half as spectacular and very un-fussed by comparison. This gives you some idea of how hard PB was working to keep those cars in sight once back in the 5.0l taxi.

Brock was synonymous with Holden and the nation was back in love with the Brock/Holden partnership, but I think if you gave him the choice that weekend, he'd rather have been back in the Sierra.

Forest Elbow really does require some balls.
Funny you should say that.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6AniLheLhY&fea...
Having raced that circuit once I cannot begin to describe the courage and balls that took him to do a lap like that. My laps were not anything remotely on the same planet as Peter Brock's lap (12 or so seconds behind from memory in an badly underprepared Commodore!). For my first and only time racing at Bathurst I actually met PB at one of the driver briefings and I cheekily asked him for some hints on getting around the circuit faster. True gentleman that he was he graciously passed on some great tips and more importantly told me where not to be stupid. Saved my bum the next day by allowing me to cut 4 seconds from my lap time and get under the qualifying cutoff! I dont believe he ever got sufficient recognition internationally for just how good he was as a driver.
If anyone is interested Brock's 1991 Commodore featured in the video is up for sale right now:

Price is not advertised but I believe it is north of A$375k. I have been buying my lottery tickets but no luck yet!

If anyone is interested?! Wow, what a piece of news - thanks for sharing. Kudos for having raced there and met the man himself too, fabulous stuff and what I love about PH; put an old video up and stories like that come up! http://my105.com/ListingDetails/tabid/65/p/1/k/Bro...
Thanks!

Grew up in Bathurst. I met Perfect Peter as a kid and got his autograph at a meet the drivers thing back in the late 80's. Truely one of Australia's best drives.
Was a sad day when his Daytona left the road and hit a tree, claiming his life a few years back in the West Coast Targa.
I remember all the times my old man would take me up the mount to watch the end of the Bathurst 1000. drunken yobos with either Ford or Holden plastered across their chests. I have to say tho that the best thing about Group A was the different production cars that were racing. Current V8 'Supercars' are purbose built space frame chassis built racing cars that only silhouette their production counterparts.

Remember this like it was yesterday, was 16 at the time and in NZ we use to get the qualifying highlights on tv the morning before the race, this also makes you appreciate how quick the Sierras and GTR's were. Rose tinted specs maybe but V8 Supercars don't have the same appeal as the Group A cars, at least they looked like something out of the showroom (same for rallying to) and now look at the prices of the homologation specials M3's, RS500's and "proper" HSV's. Hats off to the V8 Supercars for close racing though, a second usually covers most of the grid in qualifying if only they could use more production based cars.
Amazing video!
Having never watched the series back in the good ole days but an avid watcher of the current V8 supercars, i can see where most of the drivers took inspiration from. Craig Lowndes has most certainly taken a leaf out of brocks book.

Fantastic stuff! .... what fans want to see.
Yet another video that will fuel the debate on 'the good old days' vs 'progress', which i'm not going to contribute to directly.
But by way of illustration, a group of friends and I have been planning a weekend get-together to watch some motor-racing, drink beer etc. We had a choice between a) British F3 and GT at Silverstone, b) BTCC at Rockingham or c) Masters Historic at Donington. I appreciate modern cars; they're fast, safe, incredibly well engineered and no doubt unbelievable to drive. I also appreciate cars from previous eras; the looks, the noise, the rawness. But as fans wanting to see (and hear) a spectacle and be able to get close up to the cars, guess which one we picked?
Here's why ....
