MB5032's 190e. Lovely yes
Wow, thats stunning!
A true labour of love that car, mucho respect to the owner. Major work involved by all accounts not to mention modified chassis/engine bay and wiring to match engine, g/box, abs etc. Really awesome and no doubt very rapid too.

Surely I'm not the old one sad/geeky enough to spot the "606 D" number plate on the W124 behind? Ok, maybe I am then. hehe

Mere coincidence: that car is not hiding an OM606 as it is pre-facelift and lacks the wing vent!

To all the naysayers at the start of this thread, this car has in fact a factory fitted AMG kit making it a very rare car indeed.

With the correct alloys and a £75 eBay leather interior coupled with some DSLR photos, I'd expect half the forum to be purring over it advertised at £2500.

Would not be surprised to see it bought by w124.org and sold for £4000+

Well, the prices he asks (usually BMW E28s and E34s) are usually 'heroic' but if you want the very best of a particular car then I think the prices he asks are actually very reasonable. The way to look at at it is - could you possibly buy a car and get it to the standard he gets them to for the same money? NO way! If you buy one of his cars I think you're covering his costs and getting his man-hours and expertise for for free.

I've no idea what he'd be asking for that 190 but in the past he has offered similar condition E28s for around £8-9k and poorer (but still spectacular) condition E34s for £3-4k. He has an amazing (I say amazing but I'm only judging by pictures) E34 at the minute for £8k. I'd guess that 190 might be in the range £7-9k, but that's only a ill-educated guess.

Ludicrous price for a 190 maybe - but I paid £7k for a basic Citroen C1 2 years ago and after 5 years the C1 will be worth £2k and the 190 will still be worth, what, £5k to the right buyer? Cheap motoring in a quality car.

They surprisingly thirsty those old 190Es... Heavy cars, low power output, auto box...

The fuel consumption of the C280 would be very similar, if not, better.
MPG on the W202 is very similar to that of the 190e.

Edited by SuperHangOn on Saturday 1st September 09:58
Weight of the 2.0 is 1180kgs and power is 122hp. Hardly a lightweight in its day for sure, but now... I've got a manual and easily get 35mpg (it's been my daily driver for about 5 or so years).

No they're not fast. But that's not the appeal of them. They waft. Wafting is good. More power is not required for wafting.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he was asking more... There are other dealers that would certainly. That does annoy me about these ads though. Tell me how much f**king money you want for it! (I'd also be interested about the mileage of the car, not just the replacement engine) It's not a half million pound Ferrari, it's a nice 190E worth probably a maximum of about £5k (cos it certainly shouldn't be Cossie money).

For sensible money, I have to admit, I could be tempted by that. Man can't have enough 190Es.

You could be right about the price - Avantgarde have just sold one that they were looking £8k for and it was only a 1.8, albeit with only 23k. Mileage on this one is 80,000 in total - say so under 'service history' on his website.

Put it this way, I got a 2.0 with 26000 miles on it, mint, about 5 years ago for a lot less than half what the 1.8 is going for! It's got about 70k on it now mind you, though with fresh paint it now looks as good as it did. Flat paints aside (they only clear coated the metallics then), they're very durable.

It's not like they're uncommon either, they made 100,000s of the things (unlike the Cossies which go some way to justifying the price they go for). You still see loads on the roads.

Still highly recommend it to anyone as a daily. I'd get in that car and drive it anywhere. Bags of character, they cost peanuts to run and they're a doddle to spanner. If you can snag a good one for sensible money that is.

If you have long legs, the non adjustable steering column is set too low with its large steering wheel, so the smaller aftermarket wheel i can understand!

Well, we were both wrong.

£5750!

I know there'll be plenty who'll say "it's only an old 190 so it's only worth £1500 tops", but personally I think that's a hell of a bargain.
