Yep we just spotted that, quite possibly legal although right on the skinny edge of it! And of course they used the road legal compound rather than the super sticky rally job

I have said this before the engine makes minimal difference, a zetec engined formula ford or even a Kent engine would still show any road car the way round. One of our customers entertained us by taking his Bugatti veyron around donington park on a test day and we gave him a reality check by going around 3 seconds quicker in a 100bhp formula ford! People, road cars are exactly that whether you twist and tune them they are a compromised package and pretty much any single seater will destroy them.
You beat me to it; if anybody's source of info on the relative speed of cars is based on what they watch on Top Gear they are in for a heel of a shock if they realised what even a cheap and old single seater can do compared to bedroom wall fantasies like Veyrons. Much as I like the idea of the Ecoboost this stunt is nearly all down to the chassis. Brilliant marketing though...coppice said:

Totally agree, however its still pretty cool and a great idea! hmmm how about making some of the old 1.6 Zetec cars into road cars with 2.0 ltr Durtecs in the back?
We've already done this on the last page "Anyone that kids themselves that putting a Formula Ford or any other race car on the road is easy is a fool (believe me, I've done it) by the time you've changed the suspension to get a sensible ride height, changed steering wheel/column/brakes & seat belt mountings to comply with IVA regs & then added stuff like handbrake/lights/indicators/& control equipment for same it's far easier & cheaper to start with something that was designed as a road car (albeit looking at a glance like a race car) in the first place."Only way it can be done for anything like sensible money is to do it yourself from scratch (something sadly well beyond most people) or buy a kit

The worlds getting too high tech and Eco friendly for me. Think I'll stick with the 5 ltr V8 and 15mpg (if I'm lucky)
You're missing the point that it's putting out 200hp/ltr, that's pretty impressive. The reduced weight is obviously good for handling too. It's not even a hybrid or anything.Russ Bost said:

I reckon 5k is optimistic for that engine + install. But its a good idea!
Not really, you can buy the engine for sub £1k now, wiring loom £100.. after market management £500 a days mapping £350.. if you're a bit handy with the tools you just need to fabricate some mounts find out which gearbox mates up, personally I think you would have change from £5k Greg_D said:
it's the little things that cost the money! my 2.1 zetec turbo powered, road legal example example has burst through it's bodywork somewhat, a little reshaping may be necessary but should be fun when it is completed and mapped later this month.
Maybe you should have bought the 999cc engine it might have just squeezed under the body work and you wouldn't have to fight so hard with the SVA man(or woman) Greg_D said:
