RE: In depth: new Range Rover
Discussion
Having driven considerable distances in three variant of the now former RR and not lacking anything during these miles, the new RR seems to revise the term 'being cosseted around'. Still have to get used to the front and rear lights being stretch along the side though, yet other than that.. love it. JLR, I am mightily impressed.

Trust me, you'll be able to afford one of those lumpen heaps in a lot less then 10 years.
In fact, I'll stick my neck out here. If you can't afford one after year six I'll pay the difference for you. These vehicles are automotive dynosaurs.
dinosaurs? Did you miss the bit about this being the all new range rover, and being an absolutely awesome piece of modern engineering? In fact, I'll stick my neck out here. If you can't afford one after year six I'll pay the difference for you. These vehicles are automotive dynosaurs.
Not really my kind of car but I just love what Land Rover are doing at the moment. I don't know if it's Tata that deserve the credit or what, but they're surely one of the leaders in the car industry at the moment.
That said, manufacturer's MPG quotes seem to be outrageously far off reality these days so can anyone shed any light on how likely it is the real car will get anything near them?

I find if you knock 20% off the official combined rating you'll not be far off the real world consumption. Countdown said:
JLR can design some fantastic cars - its a crying shame their not better built. I would LOVE to buy an RR for the wife but I'd buy a Landcruiser instead because of reliability.
I've ran a 4.4 V8 L322 for 2 years now, never had a problem, apart from the tin backing plate on the N/S front disc brake scrapping along the disc, this wasn't the RRs fault though. (Brick in the middle of the road). Oh and there was a drain on the battery, again, not the RRs fault; the wife has a tendency for leaving lights on.However i've had problems with EVERY other car i've had (apart from my P38 RR )
AMV8 = Electrics went within 24 hours of delivery, intermittent alarm problems (neighbours loved that!!!), jumping gears (sportshift model), tyres blowing every other month. That was a proper friday afternoon car.
Bentley GT = Windows wouldn't sit properly (pillarless coupe) and would create one hell of a wind noise over 60mph.
Bentley GT Mulliner = Satnav gave up, keyless entry and keyless go would work when they felt like it.
Ferrari 360 = Had a few spaz outs every now and again where it would drop at least 2-3,000 revs for a few seconds and then kick back in.
Anyway the list goes on with lots of other "prestige" cars that i've owned.
The RR still remains the king of the road in my eyes, i even bought a defender 90 for off-roading/clay pigeon shooting, nope, RR is still better.

Hold on, does the fact that the monocoque is lighter than an Audi/ BMW/ whatever mean anything?
It's just a monocoque, right? Once they hang on an engine and wheels etc. the thing will still be pretty heavy. Unless I am mistaken. Could someone please enlighten me.
I've read that it's about 400kg lighter than the out going FFRR so I think that puts it about 2.2 tonnes? It's just a monocoque, right? Once they hang on an engine and wheels etc. the thing will still be pretty heavy. Unless I am mistaken. Could someone please enlighten me.
