RE: Chrysler prices SRT Viper: 640hp for £62k
Discussion
I remember looking in a Ford garage in the states where they had a lovely Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca spec car. It retailed at a somewhat reasonable $48k or so, but it had a dealer added markup of $15-20k just to beat the rush and the waiting time. I guess that is always the case and I'd expect that to happen with this.
What an engine though!

Top Gear called the GEN V Viper the super car bargain of the decade:

This may seem like a rant but this article is just misleading right from the outset. There is no VAT in the U.S. and given the relative economic gearing of our two countries you cannot make the comparison. In reality the price of $99,390 is closer to £82,000 in the U.K. including VAT and duties, but this does not include shipping, IVA, first reg and road tax. This is forgetting that you simply will not find one for MSRP in the U.S. for 12-18 months from the time its released.
£62,000?? I think not.
There is VAT Mitch just here they call it "Sales Tax" and you would need to add that on if you were buying the car and registering it. Now in Illinois that is 6.75%. In other states it's higher and others it's lower or zero depends where you buy it. Everything here is advertised without the Sales Tax for some reason.£62,000?? I think not.
You would also have to pay sales tax again if you bought the car secondhand in say 2 years time so another person would get the pleasure of paying 6.75% to the state of Illinois, then in say two more years again sales tax. The sales tax is based on the invoice price so say you bought it secondhand for $80k obviously the sames tax amount is lower but still 6.75% here.
Not sure why all the "waiting list " hype to be honest it looks lovely inside and out but chassis is basically the same car they stopped making in 2010.
I would rather buy a Voodoo Edition ACR for less money.

Big power, big price.
But does it drive/handle?
Well the last one set the production car lap record at the nurburgring so i would say yes. And by production car we are talking about something that was made for and sold in a dealership and conformed to federal type approval standards rather than a one/two off race/kit car bodged through less stringent IVA tests by strapping on some lights and a numberplate. But does it drive/handle?

Ah, but that would have been driven by a pro driver. Most of us, no matter how much we would wish so, don't have that kind of skill. So the question still stands.

Even a SLS, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston, etc will catch you out if you heavy with the right foot at the wrong time!
True. It's down to the gray area of distinction between heavy foot where yo're asking for trouble and being a bit overenthusiastic where the car should/could recover but due to it not handling properly it doesn't. History is full of unforgiving, twitchy cars.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
