RE: Volvo C30 Polestar and V40R

What these guys said, what a waste of time and (not a lot of energy) from Volvo/Polestar in trying to make the C30 T5 even vaguely interesting. They should have had the balls to produce the 400bhp AWD version and not waste the limited run of 250 on the yanks.
Having spent nearly the thick end of £400 raising the output of my 2011 T5 C30 to just short of 245bhp at the clutch by having the ECU remapped on a rolling road and the standard filter replaced I can safely say that I'm still bored with it and wouldn't repeat the process even if it was possible once my 3 year lease is up.
You have remapped a leased car?Having spent nearly the thick end of £400 raising the output of my 2011 T5 C30 to just short of 245bhp at the clutch by having the ECU remapped on a rolling road and the standard filter replaced I can safely say that I'm still bored with it and wouldn't repeat the process even if it was possible once my 3 year lease is up.

Concur. The C30 Polestar is a let down. And, whilst the V40 T5 R-design has had a lot done to it, it's wrong-wheel drive, doesn't have class-leading performance (or, I'm guessing, economy) figures, and looks too bland, still.I think it's a worthwhile entry to current the "GTi" class of vehicles, if a bit (...a lot) expensive. However, whilst the "5-door luxury hot-hatch" comparison is valid, I can't see many potential M135i buyers (myself included) being tempted by this.
Which is a shame really - until the Audi S3 comes out (which doesn't appeal to me anyway), the M135i is in a class of it's own. Sad times for consumer choice.
Its weird but as of late with regard to the car industry something has changed rather a lot. What? It now longer is about making a better car. Its now about making a car that does most all of what the other cars do in just a slightly different package.
Makers will soon face the daunting challenge of pricing. That is trying there best to produce the same basic car as everyone else for a cheaper price. So its Japan vs Germany vs China's proxy cars as Volvo. I think all three maker centers will survive for quite some time with people being content to choose and change cars like they do different types of coffee, soda, cell phone, laptop. All basically 98% the same but switchable for the sake of it.
A lot of cars will also be sold via the price of geography. China can sell cars cheaper in their home market than can any-other market and VW can sell equivalent cars cheaper than China (all economic indices included in this calculation- shipping/taxes/subsidies) in Germany. This effect should keep toyo-nissan, VW, BM/MB, Volvo all in line for the foreseeable future. I don't see Ford keeping up however in the longer term.
If all this doesn't spell out the need for a eventual market for a cottage industry of very small independent and unique car makers than I do not know what will. b

Volvo really can't be bothered to even attempt to hide the Focus DNA in its new designs by the looks of it.
Have you seen the two cars next to each other by any chance?Might be a slight hint of the focus from the rear quarter but thats it and open the door they couldnt be further apart.

it's just about the best car you can buy for around 30k. What's not to like (other than the looks, which are subjective)?
All those who drove it seem well pleased with it.
The best car for £30K, if you say so. I dont like the looks but the interior and rides would put me off buying one. Not to mention the fact that I dont really rate many modern BM's.All those who drove it seem well pleased with it.
Enough nonsense, I hope Polestar do more for Volvo than they're doing at the moment. Don't think they will though.

All your opinion and against general opinion of BMW and critical opinion of the M135i. Thankfully you're nowhere near an authority on the subject.

Yes it's my opinion and also my own money, so excuse me for not giving a stuff about your comments or your inflated opinion of your own talents as a driver. Obviously you know lots about Polestar and their tie in with Volvo, perhaps you should enlighten everyone?Enough nonsense, I hope Polestar do more for Volvo than they're doing at the moment. To elaborate, I would still buy this over and above any other FWD hatch; all the rest are too chav (Focus ST) or too bland and predictable (Golf GTI). But I don't have to buy a FWD hatch, so I won't!
Volvo are so perilously close to making some cars that would top my shortlist in future, but Ford need to wake up to the progress and profitability that has come to Jaguar since it was freed from their shackles, and let the crazy Swedes do what they clearly want to. I just hope these cars act as a bridgehead to that happier future.
I'd buy a volvo tomorrow, if;
1. it had 4wd.
2. looked sporty and handled the curves well.
3. was small-ish and trackable but could still seat 4.
4. had 350hp.
Why buy a volvo when you can have a BMW or an Audi? Simply put, volvo needs to give you more. Where is there room for more? In the hp department. I await the days of a T5R you'd be proud to park next to an M3.

Polestar want to do lots and can do lots, the reality is it goes completely against volvos main ethos, safety. Will we ever see a mainstream production polestar car, unlikely. Could it end up doing what AMG did at first for Merc by taking the cars and changing them quite possibly but is polestar big enough to do that on its own, again probably not. Its getting their but if it ever does is another matter.
I've been a fan of the C30 since it came out. Looks so much better than the current Focus.
Interesting that they're only selling it in America, since I doubt most Americans have ever heard of Polestar. Limiting it to only 250 units is silly, though. It's not that special. I'd be very happy to own one, but doubt I'll ever see one with the low production.

However it's o'k everyone bleating on about the 135, it is far from perfect, hasn't anyone seen just how plain ugly it is??
Apologies for the mistakes! I've managed to escape being shot thus far, though will consider myself duly warned... S60 was a silly one, sorry. Suppose I was thinking of fast Volvos and touring cars so the old grey BTCC S40s came to mind! Is it bad I still want an S40 T4 to pretend I'm Rickard Rydell in?

It's perfectly understandable. I yearn for the old days when cars had NAMES not these bloody stupid number "codes" that don't even mean anything. 40, 60, 70, I couldn't be remotely ars*d trying to work out which model is which. Polo, Golf Scirocco, Passat is so much more memorable.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
