"It's not fast enough." is in the same category as the following useless lines, which you'll often see sharted out on to Pistonheads:

"It's £5k too expensive."
"It needs another 50bhp."
"It's really ugly."

People just don't give two hoots about how cars feel in their own right anymore.

I love the Panamera. If only they'd shrink the diesel badge a bit or remove it altogether.

I could never own one of those because they make me feel physically sick to look at. That said, really enjoyed the video.

The accusations of backhanders are getting really really tired now. Disagree with the man all you want, a bit of debate is what forums are all about, but "I don't agree therefore Chris is on the take" really doesn't get us anywhere. Instead let's hear sensible reasons as to why what he says is wrong, even if sensible by PH standards is "I hate diesel and will never entertain the fuel of Satan in my tank".

I sold my Alpina D3 in favor of a new M3. Is it worth 25k more? Probably not. The linear power delivery of the Alpina was superb. Sure the M3 is quicker...but how many times do you actually use a car to its full potential?

I've been open to the diesel debate since doing a tour of Scotland in a 320d e46 chasing some far more interesting cars, the simple fact is diesel technology has and is developing well. My only reservation on the panamera is for £70k+ it kinda should be what you have described here Chris.

I would be interested in taking equivalent petrol and diesel "s-line" & "m-sport" cars on a similar test to quantify performance, mpg, and driving advantages/disadvantages.... Oh both the 2.0 and the 3/3.5 variants. I think most would be surprised I know most where by my 320d!

Enjoyed the vid!

After hearing that vid, the summary goes something like this:

I'm not friends with Ferrari but as sure as hell I'm not going to fall out with Porsche. The only car anybody needs is a Porsche diesel (because it will do 150+ with an old Audi engine).

Or:

Better a small brown envelope from Porsche than none at all from Ferrari.

Maybe, the above is harsh & incorrect but...
Or the third option being, it's just a good car, that does the 'real world' very well??
Not quite sure what the obsession with back handers are tbh.

What is your evidence or have you just made all that up?

I can guess the answer.

Engage your brain before posting next time, you might say something of interest.

No, it's actionable - so, write your evidence, and then we'll see where we stand.

I don't see what the cufuffle is all about, I like them. Sure it's not pretty but I don't think the latest5 series / A6's are particularly pretty. They're a nice alternative to see on the road and look very capable and practical!

Oddly he started to sound like one of my elderly family members, in the video, justifying 'adequate' performance.

It's still an awfully unattractive car which has the performance of a moderately fast executive saloon but with the compromises of a sports coupé. So yes, for a fast Coupe, it isn't fast enough. For a brisk executive saloon, it's accommodation is too compromised.

It's a hateful car of confusion that's only saving graces are it's quite fun and economical for its size. Like a cruise liner with a sport badge.

I like these a lot, looks and all(although a darker color works better I think). Would take one of these over an equivalent Cayenne anyday.

Versatile is the word that springs to mind with this thing.

Don't worry Chris, one born every minute I'm afraid.

Good, honest review of a superb real-world car. Lost on a small percentage of the population though....

See now here's the subjective bit, I quite like the looks, sorry but I've been to spec savers to check and I still do, I also think that given the options available I would be tempted by one. accepted I don't have the need or 70k to buy one today, but then I really liked the Cayenne when I had one so it takes all sorts.

In a world where compromise is becoming more and more common I can see its place, in my eyes its less of a compromise than some cars.

Chris, your reviews are usually insightful, comprehensive and targeted at the kind of use a type of car will actually get (something a lot of mags struggle with), but this thing... too ugly, too heavy, too expensive. 2 tonnes is not far from SUV territory. For that price, they've got to be kidding.
