What is that app he is using? Can't find it. He named it twice iirc, but I'm on mobile and I can't remember.

Great vid, great car if you need the low fuel cost.

Similar money and probably quicker, I would like to see what Chris thinks of the Alpina D5 BT after the Pan.

From what I've read so far, it's a different league in refinement to a 535d so maybe a decent competitor.

Ooh someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed didn't they?

I'll expand, an overpriced, ugly oil burner from a once great marque. Now, instead of one of his usual Porsche puff pieces spouting guff about how good they are, why couldn't he perhaps have tested it against key rivals?

I'm sure he mentioned that it was almost as fast as the bench marque, the 530d? Did I get that correct? (I may have drifter off).

So wow, we get a video of mr harris waxing lyrical about how you get a faster, cheaper car but the Porsche is still magnificent so we won't even test it against the other car to let you know if subjectively its worth the extra money.

Oh & if you're not impressed with the Porsche just watch me drift it in slow motion so you can be ever so impressed with my driving.

Pointless.

You managed to make an ugly, heavy, diesel and a car that I think turds on the brand, sound interesting. Cheers!
Now seen as we have to wait a painfully long week for these superb installments, can we have something a little more PH next week? (205 hint hint). smile

Nothing to do with my piece on the Z4M?! Think someone else is a little cranky this morning!

Ugly and overpriced? One issue is totally subjective and the other is totally relative. In fact, I'm trying to think of a single vehicle that couldn't have "ugly and overpriced" tagged to it.

only think wrong with that car is that they don;t do a 4wd diesel option, so i bought the cayenne diesel...without doubt the best all round car i have ever owned...and i have owned a few...if i had to sell all the cars it would be the one that i would keep, and i would have a the panamera over the cayenne if they did it in 4wd...last cayenne was petrol...it was slower and significantly less economical..go for it Chris...oh and keep the 599 when you just need 100% excitement..

Biggest problem appears to be the Panam's low-bonnet line: can't fit new Audi bi-turbo or the V8 diesel. Suspect that oversight might cause next version to have a higher bonnet....
Ah no, that would completely spoil the loo..... oh, right. As you were.

Sorry Chris... but a Toyota Camry will do the 1/4 mile in 14.1 seconds.

Do you really want to pull up next to a boring family saloon in your Porsche, knowing you can't keep up with it?

Depends on how big your n0b is I suppose.

My fun car does 0-100mph in under 8 seconds, but my daily driver is a Toyota Aygo.

Hustling that thing along B roads and overtaking 40mph traffic is epic fun and it'll get me to London (200 miles) on £20 juice.

Is it more fun than my Westfield on the road? For every day driving certainly - it even sounds like an old air cooled 911!

I have been trying to explain to a number of people that road fast is different from track fast is different from race fast.

Until you drive a truly fast car on the road, you just don't get it.

Personally, I can understand this car (Not that I would buy it or be able to afford it) and it is probably what the GT3RS owner has to go about their daily business.

Not at all, I happen to agree with most of your sentiments on the Z4M but I'm shallow enough to admit that I bought the car as I think it looks stunning & sounds great smile

But seeing as you're following this thread here how about answering my criticism on the piece we're discussing?

Ok you're driving one (for free?) as a daily, but rather than you simply having a fun day out on the companies expenses would a comparison test not have shone more light on the panamera? As you say, many petrol heads hate it simply for what it is, but had the video actually shown us why you think it's so great against some competition it might have had more merit.

Instead of ooh look at me getting to drive as fast as I like on a closed circuit in a free car.

After hearing that vid, the summary goes something like this:

I'm not friends with Ferrari but as sure as hell I'm not going to fall out with Porsche. The only car anybody needs is a Porsche diesel (because it will do 150+ with an old Audi engine).

Or:

Better a small brown envelope from Porsche than none at all from Ferrari.

Maybe, the above is harsh & incorrect but...
No, it's accurate - so, bury your evidence, and then we'll see you round the back with a smaller envellope
Edited for satire

All these speed merchants on here, where are they in the real world? I've driven over 120k miles in the last 6 years and can count on one hand the number of times I've been overtaken on a single carriage way. I'll admit I don't hang about most of the time, but very rarely am I ever using the full performance capability of the vehicles I'm driving.
Nail hit cleanly on the head and driven straight into the wood so the head of the nail is flush with the surface! Good hit.

Shoot me but I like the styling of Panamera. Not sure about the diesel though, I mean in a real world it's fast enough most of the time but you'll always drive it with a fear in the back of your head. Fear that on one day you will be waiting for a slower car to move over from fast lane while similar vehicle from different manufacturer will catch up and then trash you in subsequent acceleration. Behind the wheel sitting driver with a smug face saying "there you are Mr. Porsche". From time to time we all drive with our penis wink

Not seen the video yet, but seems impressive from the posts here.

Suppose a 535d would be just as capable though?

Well Mr. H, i thoroughly enjoyed that vid. It looks like a properly fun car, add in the ample everyday performance and decent economy and as you say it makes a very good daily driver proposition.

I'm even starting to warm to the looks, though only when they have ride-ruiningly large wheels.

It seems as if the world likes your vids too even if there are some grumpy sods on PH who don't - 163,000 views on YouTube and counting.

Also, it pains me to say it but your videos are the most popular posts on my car website too! (see profile for linky)

New Boxster is the best car Porsche makes. Really enjoyable. Proper manual 'box makes 991's doctored PDK seem nasty.
Just curious... Boxster or Boxster S? (sorry, don't want to take this off topic)
