Mine was normally 180miles to a tank... Petrol was half the price..
Great great car..... I had it 3 or 4 year, track days etc etc, bar its relentless need for tyres and petrol it was flawless. Only span it once on a track day, and it went bloody quick.. The second time it went I caught it.. even the instructor in the car said 'great catch'..
A long long time ago..
Currently have a Megane Cup 225, (kids now so need space in my car as well as the family car), and its easier to drive and the power is much more accessible, but the s2000 was a great car..
Askmid shows it as uninsured.. so hopefully, its not dead..
That's my old car :-). IIRC I had it from some time in 2007 until mid-2008. Was that before or after you?Great great car..... A stupid article on 2 points
1) They are only twitchy if you are a ste driver and blame the fact you hit the curb and hedge on the car. If you have anything about you this won't happen.
BS. I have had both DC2 and NSX with extended time with the Elise, Boxster, Boxster S and currently own a tweaked Caterham. The S2K is a heavily compromised car with a chassis that doesn't match the character of the engine. It's a shame that owners cant take the rose tinted specs off, its just not a great car to hussle down a backroad. I did try every demo S2K over three years from the local dealer as they were desperate to get my backside out of the integra but there was no comparison bewteen them.1) They are only twitchy if you are a ste driver and blame the fact you hit the curb and hedge on the car. Probably better to not be an idiot yourself and just "fall silent" then.
Yes but better not to when the person you are debating with has such a limited mind and proves to be of some amusement. Have you driven any of the contempory cars that were around when the S2K was released. Probably not given your one dimensional views. As for calling people out as 'ste drivers' Another hero on the internet, well done.

The steering is due to a crappy EPS system. It cannot be modified, the only options are to run no PAS (Very heavy steering) or swap the entire system out for an RX7 hyro PAS system (not easy).
Basically, you either put up with it or buy something else AFAIK.
Never had a problem in my four though I did find geo made a big difference on my modded one I raised the rack 20mm to improve the bump steer as wellBasically, you either put up with it or buy something else AFAIK.

Chances are non of those S2ks you tried had had their Geo done. A lot of the cars from Honda new weren't geo'd properly. They really are amazing and predictable cars when the geo is set properly. It really does make a huge difference. I had the same view as you of them until I drove one which had its suspension fully overhauled by Centre of Gravity (geo specialist). It is very predictable in the dry or wet but the car does demand respect. The S2000 is a "drivers car". It will punish you as others have mentioned if you drive it like a front wheel type R. But that is the skill and challenge. Any fool can jump in a fwd integra or accord (my other car) and drive fast, reach the limits and just understeer. The S2k gives a totally different dimension to the driving experience than fwd such as glorious power oversteer but you have to be smooth and set the car up properly.
The beauty of the S2k is that it is a grown up or more refined elise. Sure it offers most of the performance but with Honda build and more importantly the perfect blend of refinement for the road so when you aren't in the mood it is just a pleasant drive. The engine is its crowning glory though. It sounds so good and revving it to 9,000 rpm never ceases to put a smile on your face. Its like a motor bike. Love it!
Yes, you are right about the geo on the dealer cars they were all stock. At the time I hadn't really done lots of research into them and it was only when the integra went in for a service I would get thrown the keys. I did take one for a weekend once and really tried to convince myself to buy it! Look, I'm not saying to anyone dont try one but it seems that it's one of those cars that people can't say a bad word about. I accept I am merely average behind the wheel but it seems some think they're gods for owning/driving an S. It would be interesting to see a used group test with the peers of the day to see how they stack up in an era full of numb steering and with the average hot hatch putting out 200+HP, I'd like to see it.
Serious value at £4K as long as care is taken when viewing suspension and history. If and when the Caterham goes I am sure i'll take a look myself.

I never completely gelled with my S2000 but mine really came alive down the backroads. Each to their own.

Just couldn't get on with mine. Loved the interior, gearchange (best I've ever driven), and the first few times into the VTEC zone were fun. Super build quality, and I loved the style.
My acid test is a 300+ mile loop into Wales and back, and spending mile after mile in 2nd at c5.5k waiting for an overtaking opportunity was plain wearing. I came back more tired than in any other car I've taken along this route and shortly afterwards sold it for what I paid it.
On the plus side, in the few months I owned it, I experienced none of the handling foibles others have reported (02 model) - perhaps the geo was correct?
