After looking at the other pictures mentioned, have to say i LOVE IT biggrin Especially the amazing interiors! I much prefer this red and white one to the sea of "RUST" coloured dark ginger orange ones, or dull silver..

The MP4 exterior side view styling has always left me a bit "meh" or just "bleh" or just not exciting and tbh still does unless the doors are open. I think the spiders much better, although i think ill have to wait until its redesigned before i can trully love the exterior side view. From a purely exterior design perspective im much more interested in the new F1 replacement and i havent even seen it properly yet.

While i might not like some special creations that Mclaren have made.. and ultimately why should i, they havent been made for me, i havent paid for them to be done and im sure the owners couldnt care less what i think. But i LOVE the fact that these are being made, that someone can create what they want and be happy with it. Isnt that what we all dream about? to have our own individual cars that we helped to design. Id love one! Id have:

Spider in Florecent 3 layer green, like Verde Ithica but more flourescent.
Black Carbon lower front spoiler lip
Black interior with carbon fibre everywhere.
Bright green leather inserts on doors and seats
Side intake blade in Black Carbon
Black the rear bumper out around and below the grills like the race car, been done before on customers cars.
Remove the rear brake light from the spoiler and put F1 inspired square brake light between the exhausts, hidden in the horizontal blades like the normal lights.
Black gloss wheels
Green Calipers
Green Mclaren logos instead of red
All exterior chrome or aluminium in black, spoiler uprights, badges etc.
Loud exhaust

Id have that over yet another red ferrari anyday! Any car that has doors like the MP4 and a moving rear spoiler is just FANTASTIC!!! I love Lambos but the next gen gallardo really needs some good doors to make it special.

I look forward to seeing what they do next, esp with the new customizable F1 replacemnet, very exciting times we live in! thumbup

Special operations?

This is just a mess around with colours and trims.... special project? Crap.

The X1 is also absolutely awful.

All that does is highlight to me how good the F1 still looks in any colour and how ste the 12c looks in comparison. If I were Mclaren, I'd try my hardest not to get the two cars in the same place to be honest. As the poster before said, it really does show the 12c up as the computer generated generic looking car it is.

Astonishing how well the F1 shape ages though - still looks contemporary in my eyes!

The likes of McLaren are bound to have realised by now that they're losing a fortune to the 'prestigious' aftermarket tuners / stylers, like Mansoury et al. So 'Special Operations' is just their way of turning a blind eye to decency as long as the customer's pockets are deep enough!

Totally agree about the X1 as well. That sort of retro-futuristic design just looks ridiculous, like something rejected from The Jetsons or Fireball XL5.

Bullocks.

Custard test.

Unless your definition of 'car' is 'pushbike' and your idea of bespoke modification is this:

Exactly. Special Price for special people more like. You want to pay us how much to ruin one of our cars for you? hmmm... ok then.

Someone go to them with a really special request for some bigger turbos for example or KERS and see what they say.

I'm a massive fan of these cars. The red and white isn't really to my taste, but I do like that you can basically have what you want (if you have the money for it).

For me, I'd be happy with one of these:

But if my pockets were a little deeper and I fancied something a little different (untill they release one), I'd be asking Ron for a road going version of one of these (but in a different colour scheme):

But let's face it, unless I win the lottery, I'm massively unlikely to ever come even remotely close to owning either.... frown

I don't like it, but look, it isn't mine so I don't have to(and the owner won't care).

One of my vehicles is modified to my taste. I love it, you don't have to.

It's just a question of personal preference.

Sorry, but I actually like that, looks more supercar than the rest, not sure about the interior colour choice but it is just the right side of over the top.

At first I though: "good McLaren can make a few quid from this to fund more new car development". But then I had second thoughts.

If I owned a McLaren what would I really think about this? In fact I would be quite irritated. Why? Because doing tasteless tat like this devalues the brand.

Is it any of my business what somebody else does with their car? No of course not. And it would not stop me from enjoying an MP4-12C if I was lucky enough to own one. But for the manufacturer to be doing this stinks of desperation to make a quick buck, at the expense of long-term brand value.

It is a mistake.

I'm slightly inclined to agree, though I don't mind these two cars.

The only thing that grates slightly is the car names.
The other car with the full custom bodywork, fair enough, it is a 'proper' one off, you could stick a new name on that.
I'm not sure that a paint job and different colours in the interior justify "special project 8".
