I think it's going to look a bit like the Mazda Furai (not sure how it's spelt) by the looks of the video

I haven't read much about it but Is this new P12 meant to be the successor to the F1? I am somehow sceptical but will see what the gurus at McLaren have engineered.

6 litre naturally aspirated V12, 620bhp, 6 speed "H" pattern manual gearbox, Sub 1300kg kerb weight, Carbon fibre body, no traction control, no power brakes, no ABS, no power assisted steering and no driver aid gizmo's are things that make the F1 special.
We are all well aware that car technology, crash and emission control regulations have changed since the early 90s, so producing something similar to the F1 will be damn sight difficult.
Im not expecting a V12 but I am expecting electrics galore. So in my opinion a car not comparable to the F1.
I read on autocar a while back that the new McLaren will have a new 799 BHP NA 5.0 V8 engine.

I think the latest rumours are they'll use an upgraded version of the 3.8 twin-turbo V8 in the 12C instead. Same power output (~800hp) though.

This is a great piece of marketing what a tease. The F1 is still the best road car McLaren have ever produced and it's hard to see that they will produce something else that has captivated me as much since I first saw it (ummmm LM). Come on McLaren prove me wrong I want you to make me love it but let's see some passion and flair as well as technological wizardry!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned anything about the new cloaking technology.

Anyway, here's something from Jalopnik;

From the way the air leaves at the back I see the rear being much more steeply raked or some kind of wing on the back?

When I first saw it I thought it might have an open top? But no way to get the air to come back down in the middle without a surface to stick to.

Please please please please please dont fk it up McLaren

The mp4-12c is super fast but maybe doesnt ... sound absolutely fantastic
really? check the first 28 seconds of this video, if this is not fantastic then it will do until fantastic turns up. It is hard to sum up my want for this car, to the extent that I am considering taking the bus for a whole year just to get into one, if McClaren "fked" the Mp4-12c up then i wait with baited breath for the "un-fked" version of the car:

The original strategy, which I think is still in effect, was for 3 cars - a super car, the MP4-12C. Above it a hypercar, this one - in effect yes, a new F1. Then something below the 12C, I guess around low-end 911 money.

sadly yes you are probably correct

most people out there do not crave exciting cars anymore

a noise from the engine?!!...... oh no! it hurts my ears so

forward thinking aesthetics you admire?.......no thanks, I want something to blend in. The lack of sound helps here also

its 2012, and I now realise Im wrong for thinking McLarens top newest bestest car ever to be exciting

silly me
I really don't think you are right about the noise for an engine. Just look at the effort bmw put in to make the engine noise in the passenger compartment of the latest M5. I think, it proves that people like the sound of a good engine.

It's using the same engine as the mp4-12c but upgraded to 800bhp
It will have plenty of tech
It will do in the region of 239mph
And will handle As that's what they are primarily aiming on,

Reason behind keeping the engine at 3.8litre turbo

The highest rated turbo engine for entering le man is 4.0 turbo

So they want it to compete at a level above the mp4-12c for a start

Interesting to hear people say the F1 was an amazing car, has anyone driven one and can confirm this? From what I heard it was quite unstable and dangerous even at high speed, which didn't make for a very rewarding drive. However, I haven't driven one myself!

I was thinking the same thing, something similar to the F40 rear wing perhaps as there's a vortex curls over quite sharply on both sides.

edit:

Maybe?

There's one good thing about the F50.
One day, they'll be so worthless, everyone will be able to own a Ferrari once.

Hideous car!

It's no TR61 but I assure you there's plenty of people who wouldn't mind one...

Same engine as the 12C but with KERS apparently. Yours for £850,000 if your lucky enough to get an invite to buy one. Not a bad price considering that if you want to get into a F1 and you can find one for sale, you will require 2M +.

It will be interesting to see a group comparison test with the new Enzo and the 918 when they come out.

I was googling around for renderings of the p12, and found mclaren have done a 'high sport' version of the 12c. Only five of them, but my word, why doesn't the standard car look like this?

Did PH ever report on the 'high sport'? This seems to have passed me by.
