Yes and I have no idea why, do you ? It's not like anyone HAS to buy one. I recently asked if it was due to frustration or jealousy. I got insulted in return for that as "jealousy" is the default answer here apparently, so it deffo can't be that.

This.
Can't be all that poor if you're buying the most overpriced supermini around? But, they are made in the UK so please all you crazy people keep on buying them!

Absolutely This. Benefits UK PLC.

The "PH Mini hate" mentality Puzzles me too tbh.
Great cars imho, yes I've driven most of the variants including the coupe and countryman.

I cant see why its such a problem! It looks far nicer than most of the Euro boxes. People should really get over the old Mini. In the old days "Mini" was the model today its the make, no different to Ford Ka, Ford Focus, Ford Mondeo etc etc!
Its simple, if it offends you dont buy one!

Talk about Brand Dilution; you now have a Mini Paceman competing with a Range Rover Evoque.

I'm sure Alec Issigonis and Spen King will be having a laugh at the irony of it in the great BL engineering hall in the sky!

This!

I keep reading the name as MINI Pacman. Best description I've read elsewhere is 'Happy Shopper Evoque'.

This car is a derivative of a derivative, and has all the looks of other products of inbreeding (along with that reverse baseball cap coupe thing).

Has the MINI brand got to the point that they could release a fart and sell it?

Already covered previously, but definitely has the lines of an Evoque. I'm not sure which demographic this is aimed at, but I have no doubt that it will do well.

I already don't understand the BMW range with all the silly pointless niche models (5 GT, X1, X3, gran coupe etc) and now I don't understand the mini lineup either. What's next a convertible paceman? then a 7 seat roadster and an electric offroad version of the clubvan?
Wouldn't surprise me if happens. There is going to be a convertible Evoque!

Would you rather have a free kick in the nuts or pay 20 grand for one of these?

Now that's a new approach to sales.

Great for economy etc and another product made in Britain.

It is not my cup of tea at all, but that is a problem easily remidied by me not spending my money on it.

My one concern is, at what point will there be a niche too far? Hatchback (the only one I would buy), Estate, Coupe (not entirely dissimilar to the hatchback), van that would only appeal to certain businesses, crossover, coupe of crossover.

Possibly all a bit much.

Despite seeing this article and thread numerous times now, every time I stumble on it I read it as 'Mini Pacman'. I just looked at the picture of the bloody car and still read the logo on the back as Pacman frown

Unlike it seems most on this thread, I'm not a new Mini hater, in fact I think in "S" guise they are a cracking little car. However correct me if I'm wrong but this is the 2 door version of what was the 4 door practical version so it's sort of like the 2 door version but it's not! They are also calling it a coupe but it's not really (worrying new trend from all manufacturers) and just to add to confusion there is already another coupe version too. Confused? I know I am!

BMW, never knowingly under utilising the power of the niche product.
